Default PCM Swap

I want to swap a flex fuel pcm into my 2002 camaro. I was planning on using a 5.3L truck pcm, then add the flex fuel sensor.

What I'm wondering is will the wire harness from the camaro work with the truck pcm? I know the camaro has way less wires, but are all the wires the camaro harness have going to the same pin locations as the truck pcm? Will my harness bolt right up to this pcm?

I run my camaro on e85 now, but want to switch it over so i can use the flex fuel sensor and run on a mixture of gas and e85. That way i'm not scared to take it out and drive and not find e85.

Dont quote me on this, but if you look at LT1 swaps website i believe the pin-outs are the same whether its a truck or a camaro pcm. If you do end up switching pcms, make sure you make a thread about setting up the sensor n whatnot, im sure that would be great info that everyone would love. Goodluck!

You may have to repin the harness to get it to work. But Why do you want to change the pcm? Are you looking for the greater processing power of the newer green/blue 1mb pcm instead of your 512kb red/blue pcm? Are you running boost? If not why not just reflash your pcm to a 12216125 operating system its a 2002 truck OS that is set up to run on the 0411 red/blue pcm with cable throttle. You would have to change a couple of wiring pins, but it would be a lot less work than swapping to a newer pcm.

I was going to change the PCM because i have a 2003 flex fuel engine i installed in a chevelle, thus i have a PCM sitting here. However, comparing pin outs there are several that would need to be changed around.

Looking at the OS 12216125 it looks like it is flex fuel capable, but none of the parameters are there. I'd assume i could just copy over the parameters from the OS I am running in the 2003 5.3 flex fuel installed in my chevelle?

Is the PCM in my 2002 camaro (i believe it is the 0411 from what i have read, but haven't pulled it to verify) going to be able to process the inputs from the flex fuel sensor? If the current PCM I have can handle the additional pins, then that would be much easier and cheaper to simply add the sensor to my existing wire harness, and change the OS. Reason I ask is that OS you suggested has Flex Fuel options but is not enabled, so I wasn't sure if 0411 could even handle it.

Yep changing the harness from a 0411 red/blue pcm to a blue/green pcm requires a bunch of wiring changes, been there done that. Not the end of the world, but I only did it because I didn`t have a PCM anyway and I was going to be running boost with flex fuel. Having to buy a PCM anyway plus being able to go to a 3 bar custom OS made switching to a blue/green pcm worth it.

Were did you find the 12216125 OS that did not have the flex fuel tables enabled? I only could find 2 postings of a 12216125 OS in the HPTuners repository and both seem to have the flex fuel tables enabled.

Also did you check out the putting a flex fuel sensor on your f-body thread?
https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagn...sor-fbody.html It has a lot of useful info in it.

Yep i saw that thread and posted in it. It looks like they are wanting to do the exact same thing I am trying to accomplish.

The os 12216125 i got was from tune file depot, as i use efilive to tune with so the HP tuner files won't work. It looks like you can get a GTO pcm to plug right into a f-body wire harness, change the os and be able to run a 3 bar COS with flex fuel, so i think i'm gonna go that route. seems like the easiest way to go.

What are you guys doing to run a DBC throttle body? The 12216125 OS's that I find are all DBW.

What is actually needed??? just the Alternator wire... the rest you can tune out....

Or am I missing something?

Do you mean what wiring needs to be changed? I know there were differences in the alt wiring, the oxygen sensors, and some other wires but I don`t remember offhand exactly what wires I had to change.

It is not too hard to compare the two diagrams and make the changes, but if you can just drop a different OS in your current PCM that is probably easier than buying a different PCM and changing some of the pins.

O2 wires are not needed for proper function....

I am thinking i need to add all the grounds (5 or 6 extra the P59 uses)... i did the swap. Changed alternator wire 52->75 and i got codes for all ignition coils.... P0351 to P0358.

I have the 12216125 OS In my 5.3L 2002 Tahoe 411 PCM,

I want to run a cable throttle body. So I wired in the IACV and TPS. And now, I need to change the OS?

I tried:
-Found another 12216125 OS with DBC and did a segment swap for engine, engine diag, and system into my tune file, then write all. And still in the scanner it doesnt show the TPS working, The Map sensor works fine though, always does.

-I tried loading the original file, then changing system -> ETC from "1" to "0" and write all.

-verified pin 24 on red connector is going 0v to 5v when i turn the tps sensor

Actually, edit, the IACV is working from the scanner. It turns on and moves in and out when I command it to. So the problem then appears to be the TPS only, the scanner says "accelerator pedal position" which makes me think its trying to read DBW position instead of TPS. So I dont know... Ill keep messing with it.

edit:
alright I figured it out. When I typed the words: "the scanner says "accelerator pedal position" which makes me think its trying to read DBW position instead of TPS."

It hit me. That was exactly what was happening. So I just right click -> Add channel and found "tps position" and "tps voltage" and walaa, it shows up in the scanner now. So it was working the entire time I was just an @(*#@(#* sorry to waste your time for reading all this.

No pin changes. You will have to reprogram the newer OS so that everything works. One is the O2 sensors are grounded to the PCM so it will throw a code but still work. You would be better off going with a 07 Express Van OS. The newer flex fuel OS's do not use a sensor. You should run about twice the size injectors or at least similiar to what they run in the vans. Also make sure he blue/green pcm you source is from a van also so your ac request works and it has the IAC drivers.

what a/c compressor am I using my swap? Even I dont know yet, will it be a sanden? what sensors from which years harnesses I will need to retro fit to my chassis so it flips on and off correctly? This is the most confusing part of the swap. AC request signal just flips the compressor on right? How does it read pressure unless I install some kind of pressure switch?

I am using my existing OS, 12216125. I see no reason to change from it, it provides 4l80e, it provides 2-bar map.

Any way I can get a copy of that 12216125 with the 80E? I have one with a 60E and am going to swap to a 80, but can't find that tune with a 80E for a segment swap. You can send it to my email if you don't mind:

this is the 80e I intend to use

2002 Silverado 8.1 stock tune w/4L80E: https://www.hptuners.com/customers/t...download&id=60

On second thought, Someone else provided that file, and I just checked it, and it says "allison transmission" So I am not sure anymore. Let me see what I can find.

Edit: A very helpful HPtuners member provided this useful info:
2002 Chevy Avalanche with the 8.1/4L80e combo runs that same OS. Use the first one that pops up in the tune repository.

I did the segment swap using his advice!

The newer flex fuel OS does not use the sensor so you don't need to put one in and wire it up. For the ac request you can use anything you like as long as you know how to program it and wire it. You can also do a segment swap for the tranny, etc as needed. Regardless you need larger than stock injectors for either flex fuel OS so if you don't have a sensor already in and wired you will save $$$ and headaches right there. I believe the newer ones are rated around 43lbs. BTW 5 years in programming is a lifetime. The newer OS will run better. I went from a 02 Camaro to a 04 GTO and now the 07 OS all have improvements.

Sorry, I am having trouble understanding your post. What sensor are keep talking about? I am using 80lb/hr injectors and a LS1 intake manifold, so all that flex-fuel stuff is gone. I am ONLY concerned about the A/C wiring and the pressure sensors. Whether or not the ECU controls them doesn't matter to me; I need to make sure the system doesn't explode when run continuously.
