Default LS2 Alternator Rear Bracket Interchangeability?

The LS2 GTO shares the same accesory offset as the LS1 F-body. Posts like this one list the F-Body alternator brackets for use with the GTO LS2, seemingly because the F-Body brackets are less expensive.

The LS2 GTO rear alternator bracket (92059707) appears to be much longer than the F-Body rear bracket (12556915). Are the rear brackets interchangeable if using the stock GTO alternator?

My drivers side motor mount can't slide fully forward due to interference with the GTO rear alternator bracket.

TIA.

Tipsy

Bump, I need to know the same thing. I think it's shorter because it sits higher up on the block where the GTO mount sits deep into the lower block.

You really do not even have to run the rear mount. Most of the aftermarket ALT brackets, do not include a rear mount. Look at Alper Motorsports, CBM, ect....

I'm not sure dimension wise but the f-body bracket is better suited to the slider style engine mounts. I'm looking to fab up something simple for my gto ls2 as I'm looking at the same issue if I run a Dingo slider. I'll work off the top bolt hole like the f-body.

I'm glad to see this thread is finally get some activity

My E36 Jags That Run kit also uses a slider mount. The stock GTO rear alternator bracket interferes with the mount just a bit. Next time I'm in FL, I should be swinging the engine in for its first test fit. If the rear bracket proves to be an issue, I'll look for an alternative or consider eliminating it altogether.

I just found a picture I took before removing the stock accessories. Compared to the picture above, it looks like the F-Body rear bracket bolts to the hole with the green arrow? Assuming the GTO alternator is dimensionally the same as the F-Body alternator (I don't know if they are) it would appear that using the F-Body rear bracket would eliminate interference with a slider motor mount.

Yes that's what my set -up looks like. The only difference is the alternator housing where the rear bracket bolt attaches. See how your GTO alternator has a solid round extension where the F-body has the square, 2 piece look to it? My only concern is the length there, too short you can run an aluminum spacer, too long and chop city time.

Looks like I edited my post while you were typing. I guess we'd need to know if the dimension represented by the green arrow is the same for the GTO and F-Body alternator:

I mean looking at the pic it looks very much like the F-body case sits back before the hole in the block where the GTO is right up on it.

It's hard to say. It could be a parallax. The camera angles are different.

just snapped a pic. It's definitely too long from what I see anyway, I need to have the mount in hand, either way wouldn't take much with a file and tap.

12556915 can be had for $19 shipped on eBay. I'm traveling but will probably grab one in a couple of weeks.

I just ordered one earlier today. I'll post when I get it in hand. For $20 it's worth it even if it doesn't work as I'll be able to reverse engineer it. I do have a vertical mill which some might consider cheating, lol.

The f-body bracket won't work. I ordered one for $20 and it is slightly different. I'll fab up a bracket out of aluminum. May make several and possibly sell the extras on here if there's interest.
