Default Starting your LS for the first time?

I have a friend who is putting an LS1 in an older pickup. He started it for the first time with no o2 sensors hooked up and open exhaust. It filled a cylinder with fuel and hydro locked causing it to bend a rod.

He is telling me not to start mine without the exhaust and the o2 sensors hooked up. I need to start my car to drive it on the trailer and pull it into the exhaust shop.

I know there are plenty of experts on here, what does everyone else do?

Thanks

You don't need O2 sensors to run an engine, they only help the fuel/air mixtures to make it run smoother and burn cleaner at idle to low rpms. I have started mine several times without O2's and it was fine. You had another issue. I don't even know if you can get enough fuel to hydrolock an engine with stock injector stuck wide open. It should have been spitting gas out of the exhaust since I am sure it killed the spark plug and it wasn't firing.

He more than likely had a bad head gasket that filled cylinder of antifreeze.

I had an injector stick open once and hydrolocked mine, but I got lucky and it did not bend a rod, just knocked a tooth off the flywheel.

I drove my swap for a month with no o2s or exhaust.

I thought from the beginning it had an injector stuck, the motor had been sitting for awhile. Are there any precautions I can take to make sure I dont have an injector stick without replacing all of the injectors.

The 02's don't do anything until the motor gets up to a certain temp. 131 degrees for mine.

I would pull all of your injectors. Get a piece of fuel line and connect it to the inhector and fill it up with some b-12 or some type of cleaner. Get a battery and connect to the injector touching the power and groung intermittently and blow the cleaner through them. My ls motor had sat for 10 years. I cleaned mine up and it fired right up. No issues on my first start at all.
