I just stumbled across this thread, but just wanted to say it's looking good! Here's my '56, mini-tubbed with a carbed LS1 and camaro front subframe. Yours is the Tuburban, I call mine the Plymaro. You don't see too many of these, subscribed!

That is awesome! How did you mini tub it? The frame is right in the way to get any wider tires in there isn't it?
Also, what gauges and rear end did you use? The car looks great, do you have a build thread anywhere?

The frame was cut in the rear, moved inboard on both sides, and reinforced. Eventually I'd like to put a 4-link and a stronger frame in the rear, but for now it works for now. We take a couple of road trips each year with it. The rear end is Ford Explorer, narrowed with Moser axles and the wheels are 22x12. Sort of overkill but it looks gnarly. We kept the factory Explorer disc brakes in the rear, and the front has discs also on the Camaro frame. I'll take some pics of the rear frame later. A ton of the work was done over at my buddy's shop, he posted a bunch of pics of the progress on his site:

Okay, that's basically my plan for the rest also. Exploder rear and narrowed frame, but I can't decide on how to connect it. Leaf spring would be cheapest, but a triangulated 4 link would hook up and be the coolest.

That's my plan for next year, a 4-link. Art Morrison makes some crazy stuff to your measurements if you have the budget. Otherwise an off-the-shelf 4-link from Summit can probably be made to fit, which is probably what I'll end up doing. Right now I just have leaf springs off of a Jeep, they're not really strong enough for the weight of the car, but again they work for now. With your motor build you might want something stronger though. The gauges are Autometer, they fit in the factory openings with a little encouragement. I can't wait to see that thing come together!
EDIT: Attached a couple of photos of the rear end if it helps.

How much did you lower the rear? Do you have any idea what your ride height is to the frame? It looks great, I'm trying to figure out where I want to set my ride height for the new crossmember.

I'll measure the frame height tomorrow. I don't know how much the rear was lowered from stock (or even what stock height is anymore), we sort of just played around until it looked right. I'll take a measurement, at least you can compare it to where yours is at as a starting point.

Finally got out to the garage - front is 5.25" from floor to frame, measured just behind the front wheel. Rear is 7.25" from floor to frame, measured just in front of the rear wheel. Hope that helps!

Pick n pull has 50% off for Thanksgiving weekend starting today so I went down there and picked up a 95+ explorer 8.8" rear with 4.10 gears and a limited slip and disc brakes for $97 after tax and core charge. Can't beat that. Found a guy on the sloppy mechanics facebook page with an 8.8 with 3.27 gears wanting to go to 4.10's so I'm going to swap him. I was wanting 3.27's since I'm going turbo and would like to get good mileage out of this beast also.
No pictures, you all know what a rear end looks like.

Any universal 4 link can be used but it needs to be welded on. I can't decide what setup I'm going to use, leaf spring or 4 link. I need to keep my budget in check so I'm leaning towards leaf springs.

Nice build! I don't mean to jack your thread but I'm looking for the cheapest place to get another gt45 other than ebay. I thought there would be some people in here that would know. I paid over $300 for mine...
