Land Rover DiscoveryII

The one thing I know about the Disco's is the axles are not that stout. If I was building the truck. I would scrap the Disco drive train and put built 9 inch Ford front and rear. A built 700R or 6L80E to a Atlas Transfer case, all powered by a LS engine. Another route would be to ditch the Disco trans and transfer case for a GM 700R or 4L80E mated to a Land Cruiser Transfer Case. I do not know how well the LR T-cases like real V8 power, I know the LC stuff does well with V8 power. The LC's have offset diff's just like the LR's. Your weak point then would be the LR axles. Just my two cents, I spent the better part of my 20's and 30's building 4x4's for extreme rock crawling. My friend Jason Paule owns Twisted Customs and builds competition rock buggies for a living.
Here is a thread with a 98 Range Rover swap, which is a really similar platform as your 03/04 disco you have there.
Hopefully, this is helpful.
