Question 1978 Pontiac Trans Am

To swap, or not to swap?!

The vin shows the car to have had a 400ci but I believe it has a 307 in it now. I'm unsure which will help the most with resell value, putting a small block 400 back in it or a 400ci LS.
What are your thoughts.... and go!

Since it is not a numbers matching engine, I'd say do what you please. I didn't want to go LS with my '77 T/A. So I kept the 400 and stroked out to a 467. Is it an SE?

if mine i go with popularity of the swap. probably bigger amount of people to sell to. non numbers car anyway. do it to your liking.

That's what I was leaning towards.
Since building a 400ci out of an LSX Block (4.125 bore/3.75 stroke) is out of my price range, Ive been tossing around the idea of getting 400ci out of an LQ4/9 (4.040 bore/3.90 stroke)

Question, what's your budget? LS will require far more than a rebuilt 400 pontiac.

I don't really have a budget set... Im just trying to get a game plan together whatever the cost. If it's to outrageous it'll just take more time.
I know the 400 would be cheaper but I'm thinking power, reliability, drivability etc. I don't have much experience with the older engines so I'm unsure of their capabilities.

Doo Itttt. I put an lq9 in my 79 ta and it was worth every penny! drivability is amazing and the power makes those Pontiac motors look like more of a boat anchor hahha
