Default engine weights... ford vs gm

Anyone know the weight difference between mach-1 4.6 DOHC aluminum motor from intake to pan VS a gm 6.0 iron block from intake to pan??

Yea any information would be helpful. Alot of people do the swap. Would be nice to know the weight saving. I'm thinking about doing the swap as well with a turbo. Want to save all the weight I can but still keep a/c and whatnot.

I just did a little looking for fun and it appears it might be close. The Mach is around 550-600, and the iron 6.0 around 500-550. Not sure how accurate that is but that's what I'm seeing

According to this thread, an Lq4 is around 520-550 like you said.

Finding consistent 4.6 weights are a bit tougher it would seem. I found this that states a 4.6 dohc (no supercharger, so probably very similar in weight to a Mach 1 dohc) is about 520-550, about the same as the lq4. I believe both of these weights are with comparatively dressed engines.

As it would always seem with engine weights, these numbers should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

Well it appears that they are close...that much we do know. If it were me I'd go with which ever one is better suitable for my application and/or which ever one is more affordable. With a turbo you aren't going to notice the weight difference I'm sure. Hell I didn't notice any difference in my LQ9 over my LS1, and that was a 100 gain

The DOHC motors you guys are quoting weights on. Are they aluminum or iron blocks? Ford made them in both

If in fact both motors weight the same then the only way to save some weight is to use a aluminum LS block.

You would think lol just by looks alone it should weight a ton less lol that's why I wanted to make sure first. I have very few things I can do to save weight so I'd like to know what the differences are. I'm sure others would too. I'm actually surprised more people haven't weighted them since so many people do the swap.

If I remember right the SOHC 4.6 weighs around 600 lbs and it's an iron block
