1990 foxbody 5.3
And nothing against Texas Speed, but I would get a custom grind cam, as well.
Compression is your friend, so the flat top pistons are a good idea.
What intake and exhaust are you using?
I'm assuming short belt set up, no a/c or power steering pump, am I correct?
I bought it thinking it was a 5.3 with a victor junior 950, and it having a th400. But that is not the case, It is not a 950, nor is it a th400. I kinda got screwed out on that deal.
I bough the car with intentions of turbo build in like 5 years after college. But for reasons that is no longer an option. So i was wanting to build a solid bracket car that will end up somewhere with 400-450 hp. Not looking to kill the bank, but i know it won't be cheap.
West coast cylinder head stage two heads are $1100 if you send in your heads as cores. And they flow close to 300cfm, which is hard to beat for that price, especially with brand new 1.95/1.575 stainless valves and good springs.
Flat top pistons can be picked up for a song and dance, if you look around, you can probably find some good genIV rods to go with it.
What do you have against using the th350? Lots of races have been won with those, and if you're on a budget, why not just go through the transmission you have and fix it how you want it?
What are the specs for that tsp cam? If you can't identify it and confirm the specs with Texas Speed directly, have it cam doctor'ed... You are going to want to know that information.

I have longtube headers woth 3in full exhaust
I have a buddy that owns a machine shop, and I can come in after hours and work on my engine for cost of parts. So I do!t have to pay machine labor cost. So I will get heads surfaced, get it flowed, maybe change valves and springs.
