Default Balancer substitution

I'm in the process of adapting an LQ9 to go in a mid-engine mount in a 65 Corvair. It is replacing an iron block 350. The LQ9 is out of a 2011 Silverado and has a "deep" balancer. The seller included a balancer from an earlier Corvette that he said I might be able to use. In trying to fit the Vette balancer it interferes with the wiring harness connector for what I'm guessing is the cam position sensor. What's the best method to get around this problem ?

The balancers are interchangeable, but you may have to install a C6 Corvette front cover to reposition the cam sensor. You may just need the little sub harness that moves the sensor connector around the balancer.

Post some pictures.

Here's the front. The balancer interferes with the wire connector at the "11" o'clock position. Guess what I need to know is can that 3 bolt cover be moved.

That engine has VVT. Can't use the Corvette balancer if yiu want to retain it. If you get rid of VVT then you need a different cam.

Look in my GTO build thread for more details.

Even if you where able to move it around and get balancer to work, waterpump will be the next issue. Truck and all VVT engines spacing is 1.5" further out than Corvette. I retained VVT and wish I would have just dumped it to begin with as it limits modifications down the line.

You don't have a LQ9. The last year for that engine was 07.

Exactly. The LQ4 is a gen 3 engine. The engine in the picture is gen 4.

Yes sounds like he needs to do some research on what he actually has before trying to bolt different parts on to it. It appears to have a aluminum block.

It does have AFM and an aluminum block. I just rechecked and the engine code is an LC9 out of a 2011 Silverado, VIN code 3. Sorry about the mistake. I did check and since this is going to be a carb conversion I was told I could eliminate the connector for the DOD solenoid. Did that but it still won't work, the balancer will contact the front cover almost right away. Guess I'll have to go a different route. Wasn't really wanting to go to the expense of the DOD and AFM delete kits as well as the cam.
Thanks for the help even though it didn't.

I'd say just switch to an LS2 front cover, but it's prolly not that simple. You still have all that crap on the end of the cam that won't fit under it. So, you'd need to at least change the cam gear and possibly more...
