No progress on the car yet, BUT, I JUST ordered a new trans. Mike from Jake's Performance just hooked me up with a deal i could not possibly refuse. I ordered a Stage 3 4L80e from them at a great price. On top of it, they are giving me a full refund on the rebuild kit i purchased from them 2 years ago. That is service that cannot be beat. I am thrilled right now! Should be a bulletproof trans for my needs!

Thanks. Hopefully can knock it out this winter. This was a big, missing piece of the puzzle.

i know i'm going back a little bit, but would the Corvette power steering pulley clear the STOCK Chevelle steering gear? I am wanting to run a GM accessory drive(i'm not doing AC) but I am afraid of that pulley hitting the steering gear.

Hey guys. I'm back with some news! Project is back on! This is very exciting news for me. An old HS buddy is helping (long time mechanic) so we can start getting this car done! Yesterday we took out the old 12 bolt and installed the new QP 9". I have new adj upper control arms on order so waiting on those. I'm deciding on brakes, shocks and springs next. Money goes out a lot faster than coming in, thats for sure. Here are some progress pics!

Old one coming out!

Old drums are def gonna get replaced w discs

Been a great rear end!

Pretty.

Yukon nodular case. Wavetrac diff. 3.70 gears.

QP 35 spline axles

These are massive!

Put together!

Gonna look nice in the car!

Very happy!!!

So ya, apparently the LSA is alot lighter than the LT1 was. I need to come down like 3". No clue what springs to get.

I’d look into AQ1 or whatever they are called. They have cheap coil over conversions fairly cheap ($450) check your pastiest Summit or Jegs magazine. Of yeah, I think they are dual adj. too.

I hope your dad is doing good. Glad to see you back at it

Thanks man. QA1 and Vikings are what I'm looking at. Got a lot of research to do for them. Sounds like you really need to make sure your factory lower a-arm is in good shape so it can handle the extra load, otherwise you need to go to a aftermarket lower. Dad is still hanging in there! Best we can ask for!

QA1 and Viking are very similar. UMI now makes a front coil over also. If your doing coil overs you needed to replace the lower control arm with one intended for coil overs. The stamped steel control arm can't handle all of the weight on two little bolts. That swap gets expensive fast. I have 550lb front lowering springs and use spring pockets shims to assist the front height. Budget friendly ride height.

Ya, i've read both, Some say the stock one will work fine as long as it's in good shape but others say you gotta go aftermarket. I'm def not budgeted for new lowers so coilovers may not be an option now. Which springs did you go with? 1" drop or 2"? I'm not looking for a low pro touring ride at all, but def needs to be alot lower than this.

Roll your own. Tubing, silicone elbows and couplers are all readily available.

I found that. Might take a risk as they'll have more in stock next week.

More progress today! Trans "in". Misplaced the new bellhousing bolts we got so we had to use some temporary ones until we get new ones. Also lost the transmission mount so had to get a new one of those too. Easy to lose parts after 3 years I guess! I know I've said it before, but I can't thank Toddoky and Holley enough for the work on these conversion parts. The amount of time and headaches they saved us is priceless!

New Jakes Stage 3 4L80e

Getting ready to install the Circle D 265mm Triple Disk stall. Such a nice unit!

That Billet is so sexy! Sucks it'll never be seen again!

Seated into the pump quite easily.

Ended up taking the drivers side header out to make room.

Plenty of room!

Bad pic but its amazing how easy the 4L80e fits with Holleys kits. Zero troubles.

Installed my new UMI adjustable upper control arms also

I think it took longer to install the crossmember vs the trans. Trying to find the right holes to use and the area to put the bolts in is tiny.

After talking w UMI, wanted to get around a 26” ground to fender measurement. They recommended the 2” drop springs and I installed the rears today. Ya....way, way too low for my taste. I’m now at 24.5”. Gonna exchange but not sure for what.

New Umi 2” vs old Moogs.

Yuck.
