Default Sanden sd7

I didn't want to hijack another thread so thought I'd ask in a new thread. Is the sd7 compressor enough compressor to cool a wagon? I'm putting a ls2/t56 in a 63 chevyII wagon and I want a low mount compressor. I plan on using DD mounts set forward 1"

I wonder how the SD7 compressor compares to the factory compressor of that era. Maybe give Sanden a call.

I want modern cooling not Era correct cooling. Seems there's conflicting information about the sd7 verses the sd508. I know the 508 is physically larger and seems I read it handles higher rpm's better. I can weld and fab so if the cross member needs attention no biggie just want the one that works best.

I would call whichever manufacturer of A/C unit you plan on using. Cooling a wagon is always hard and older ones are even harder due to not being able to seal them well enough. Insulate it the best you can.

The 508 has slightly greater displacement than the SD7, but the SD7 has greater RPM capability.

I've been relaying the same information about these two compressors for some time based on what I've been told by others, so I thought I'd research the information on Sanden's website to personally validate it...it turns out the displacement of the SD7 is actually greater than that of the SD508 (9.5cc vs. 8.5cc respectively). The SD7 does have higher RPM capability, but only when speaking in terms of downshift RPM. A few other interesting points to note are: both compressors have a 2,000 greater constant RPM capability when equipped with the standard clutch instead of the HD clutch and the SD7 can only be operated in the clockwise direction of rotation while the SD508 can be operated in either direction of rotation. I learned a lot in my trip over to their site.

That explains a lot......I was skeptical about putting the SD-7 on my Chevelle with the limited space available.......Never an issue and blows Ice Cubes out the vents ...........

I really appreciate you guys input. This eases my mind, sd7 it'll be. Should make low mounting via a Alan Grove bracket fairly straightforward.

The data sheet I went through listed AG equipment and school buses as some of the intended applications, so I think that SD7 is going to suit you well.

Old post but wanted to correct some misinformation above.

SD7 most commonly references the SD7B10, 10 = displacement in cc's divided by 10 (IE 100 cc)

SD508 the 08 references displacement in ci (not cc). The current variant of the SD508 now goes by SD5H14 (14 references ~140 cc = 8 ci, it's actually 138 cc).

Note, I didn't pull the exact specs, but the dudes above had it backwards. The SD5H14 is the larger compressor. The SD7B10 can spin faster. These are the two compressors used in the Holley LS accessory kits (hence my reading/research).

A couple performance curves linked if that helps anyone. The SD5H14 has about 50% greater cooling capacity.
