Neutral Safety Switch Question

LS1 with 4L60. I wired up the wire from the column ignition switch start thru the original column mounted neutral safety switch to the starter solenoid as stock. Then while terminating all the PCM wires, I found a wire from blue 34 that says to NS (gnd in park/neutral). I wasn't planning to have the 4L60 NS switch installed due to space concerns. What happens in the PCM if I just ground the wire all the time or leave it open? Or do I have to have the new switch on the trans? I thought I was getting close, but now am rethinking stuff.

I'm about to do the same thing. From my understanding you want to leave the wires disconnected so the computer always thinks the car is in gear. This will shorten high rev time on initial start up but may also lead to stalling out when switching between D and R on modded/cammed engines. Hopefully someone can confirm who has actually done it...

On my wife's 68 firebird, I used the 4th gen shifter and wiring plug. I have also done 2 67's with factory 67 shifter. My harness was a reworked factory 4th gen harness on both of those, and I didnt have any problem just running just the purple heavy gauge NS wire. The only compromise u may find is adjusting the original safety switch to work properly in both Park & Neutral. Since the original switch never had a provision for OD, you may want to assure it starts in park and not worry too much about neutral. What vehicle is this going in?

going into a 69 chevelle. I found another old thread about using a NSS from a later chevy that had seat belt buzzers. they have another set of contacts on it that can be grounded. I may try that approach.

I used a Ron Francis NS 600 switch on the side of my 4l60 in my ls-1 Chevy Ii wagon. I was able to use the factory auto floor shifter. It has provisions for all the wiring you need. Don't know if it's even produced but worked well in my application.

This is what I did on my wagon that only had a single neutral safety switch and no provisions for the ground to the PCM in park and neutral. It works perfect. I hand drew my schematic, but bczee made a better one so I'll show you his. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...l#post17469807

I used the neutral safety switch on the side of the 4l60e in my old car and on the 4l80e in my current car.
