Default Switched ignition 12v source.

Need to bring ignition switched ("ON") power to a small fuse box. It is a (6) fuse box & everything is 15A or less.

It's the "standalone" fuse boxadded by the guy that did my harness (LS2).

Where's the best place to get this source?

I have an American Autowire classic update harness in a 55 Olds 88.

Thanks!

Joe

Use the wire that would have originally went to the distributor as long as it isnt a resistor wire, and being aftermarket I would assume its not. Also, this should only be used to power up an ignition relay that powers your small fuse box, otherwise you run the risk of over powering the ignition switch which could lead to bad things happening.

Ignition circuit is already wired through a relay and the PNP switch (I don't have an NSS on the car). I used the purple neutral safety wire to provide 12V to the PNP to trigger the relay. I just used 12V battery power (fused @ 30A) to run the starter.

I found a pigtail under the dash which is the "ignition feed" to a coil according to the diagrams. Obviously, I'm not using that. I tested it an it only gets 12V when the key is in the "on/run" position.

The pink wire in it is a heavy gauge too.

The "stand alone" fuse box needs a relay to power it up. Use the pink wire you found under the dash that went to the coil and use it to trigger the relay and you'll be set.

So, I'll also need to grab another large gauge red 12v battery feed for the actual power to fuse box?

I would. Six fuses x 15A = a possible 90A draw. A dedicated power source is easier than fixing a burned out hulk...

If potentially 90amp, I'd use something beefier than a normal bosch cube relay.

I like to move the loads near to whatever the circuit is.

1. I have a small micro-relay box to run my electric cooling fan and headlights mounted against the frame rail to the side of the radiator. Power for this fused box comes off of the alternator 12V output.

2. Inside the cab, I have another ignition switched / fused relay box with relays for AC fan, PCM, and another relay for ignition switch - enabled circuits like turn signal, brake light, stereo amp-on, etc.

Bushman makes some cool fused, power distribution boxes which hold micro relays. They are also water tight, if you want to mount where it can be exposed to weather.

Unless the load is under an amp or two, I use a relay so as not to load up any switches.
