Default 71 nova build advice LS6 install

I am doing a 71 nova. I came across a 2002 LS6 on the cheap. Looking to install and am in need of advice please.

1. What do you recommend for motor mounts. I have seen pricing from reasonable to WT? I have seen lots of threads today from home made to you name it.

2. Do I have to modify the trans tunnel for a 4L60? I have seen threads that say yes and no. Looking for confirmation.
With the 4L60, what cross member do you recommend.

3. Need a wiring harness and PCM recommendation.

I am just trying to get things narrowed down. On the initial look, it is almost overwhelming the options. Looking for feedback on what you used in your car and were you satisfied?

I have read this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...tml?styleid=27

Lots of info but found the options confusing.

1. I used all stock SBC mounts and frame stands with just some $35 adapter plates. They bolt to the block and let you use SBC mounts. Ive even used the kind that you assemble, bolt to the engine, get it where you want and trim/weld the bottoms to the frame. That's the route I ultimately went on my own car. Other than that, places like BRP and Holley sell swap kits that include mounts.

2. Yes, but only with a hammer. No cutting required. You'll need to make a few dents around where the tunnel meets the firewall and the trans cooler lines attach to the trans.

3. Stock.

How well did the $35 adapter plates fit the engine in the bay Joe?
Did you have an AC car?

I would go with the Holley swap components. They make engine mounts, transmission crossmember for various transmissions, headers, exhaust, etc...

My son inlaw used stock mounts with plates like mentioned above, It put the LS engine in the same position as a standard sbc on his 74 Nova, The headers he bought are from Speed engineering and fit perfect except the shift linkage of the column mount shifter won't work, That's not a problem because he's using a 4l80e trans. Here is a link to the Headers, Really hard to beat the price for the quality and fit. http://www.speed-engineering.com/ls-...6-engines.html

Sounds like your off to a great start. I'm assuming the LS6 your looking at is from a vette. The accessory drive system will fit perfectly for you, but you will need to swap out the vette oil pan. I would use the Holley pan and with the holley brackets it will all be a bolt in project. As Nova said the stock harness is all you need if you've got the harness with the motor. These harnesses are very easy to modify into a stand alone system.

I would look at the Hooker setup.

You wouldn't need to do much to the tran tunnel if you use the standard location plates. But if you use the 1"set back location plates, you will need to clearance some for a 4L60E.

What PCM/ECM are you planning to use. I was good using the stock 411 PCM and did mod a stock 02' F- Body harness.

The stock Ls6 front accessories should work ok, but AC compressor will need to have a notch to the frame or are you going with aftermarket (Hooker) setup ?

Keep the post going.

Thanks for all of the info.
Yes the LS-6 is an 02 from a Z06. 62,000 miles.
It did not come with the harness or PCM/ECM.
I do think I will go with the holley set up. Should keep the correct alignment on the engine and Trans.

Hawkflier,
Good decision, Holley takes all the guess work (driveline angles etc...) out. PSI (site sponsor) offers very good harness/ECM packages. They are always around willing to help with any problems. There prices are VERY good.

Best of luck !!!

I installed the LS6 4L60e yesterday. The Holley system worked to perfection. Nice clearance on the firewall, control arms, trans, etc.

What mounts are you using ?

Take a look at the Hooker set up.
