Default DBW: what would you do?

Hi,

I bought a 5.3 to swap into my 72 Monte Carlo.

The engine is drive by wire, and it's missing TAC module and harness.
At this point I wonder what is the best route: keep the DBW throttle body and buy TAC module & harness or do a conversion to drive by cable?

I have to mention that I live in europe, and I want to avoid expansive shipping fees, taxes.

Depends on the year of your computer. Some can be converted from DBW to DBC, others can't.

I think that can be either DBW or DBC, so at least you have options.

So you mean I just have to use a dbc throttle body and flash my PCM?

Something like that. Take a look at this site:

Here is a good link to tell if your computer can be used or not.
http://lt1swap.com/cable_conversion.htm

My engine came from a 2003 Envoy XL that was a DBW. I opened the computer and it has the driver needed for a DBC conversion. Open yours and find out.

I had everything from the Envoy but the deciding factor was figuring out the mounting for the electronic gas pedal. It was much easier to find a cable throttle body with sensors and purchase the Lokar cable kit.

I totally agree, but (sadly) I do not live in the U.S.

Check the PCM first and then you can buy a standalone harness (easier that way if you don't have one to start with) and then the DBC TB. Might be cheaper that route. The TAC Module is about $400 alone.

Shoot $400? I sold the pedal and TAC from the envoy for $75 shipped. It took months to sell it at that price.

I just finished converting the harness to dbc. If you go dbc, you'll have to add a few pins to the ecu connectors (blue/green). Pretty easy though.

(Assuming your ECU can handle dbc and that you don't purchase one)

Good news!
According to LT1swap.com my ECM should work with cable throttle.
Serv No. is 12576106. It has the required chip and capaciter to control the stepper motor.

Now I have to find a cable throttle body
