Default 2013 Avalanche...L96 Swap

So I just bought an L96 6.0 out of a wrecked 2015 Silverado 2500 with 35k miles. I currently have the iron block LMG Flex Fuel 5.3 with a Black Bear 89 octane Performance Tune and the AFM disabled. What all will be required for the swap? Will it run on the 5.3 tune (at least good enough to drive for a new tune)?

It should bolt right up to the 6L80E correct? Will I need to drop the trans?

Also was thinking about doing some LS9 head gaskets, ARP Head Studs, and Trunion Upgraded Rockers in case I wanna go turbo later...any other suggestions?

This will be my first engine swap, planning on grabbing an engine lift from Harbor Freight...Ive done a couple cam swaps, installed new clutches, headers, etc...

ANY Tips greatly appreciated!

Thanks for help guys....

Pic of truck....has 96k miles, 5.3 runs fantastic, good oil pressure and mileage just want a little more power

whole different ball game. Google for a lot of info. Your trans will work, will need a new harness or rework the original, new tuning bc the direct injected motors are completely different, will need a power steering pump kit (they have electric rack and pinion), new motor mounts, etc.

I wouldn't open it up. The newer gen5 motors are completely different from the older ls engines. so the standard ls9 gaskets I don't think will work. O yea u will need around 70psi base fuel pressure for the lift pump. these motors operate around 2000psi fuel pressure.

did your motor come with a wiring harness? If not I have an original from a 2015 5.3 that we just swapped into a c10. We ended up getting a speartech harness. IF u interested in it I'm thinking about selling it. I don't swap many l83s lol.

But anyways there a whole new breed of engines. Worth the swap once finished just takes a lil more doe than a normal ls swap.

This is an L96 6.0, I believe this motor replaced the LY6 in 2010...so all 2011+ 3/4 Sierra and Silverado came with this motor, its port fuel injection, Flex Fuel and VVT If im not mistaken...its a Gen IV motor just like my LMG, its not direct injection and its not and L83...as far as I know Chevy does not make a Direct Injection 6.0

should be a pretty straight forward swap honestly. the 5.3 and 6.0 are no different externally. There might be some sensor differences between the too or depending on if VVT or DOD is on the engine. Not up to snuff on the newer 6.0's

As far as the tune goes it will run but I would definantly get a new tune. I think the heads on the 6.0 have higher flow numbers and that increase in airflow on the 5.3 tune my lead to some lean conditions.

Thanks for the info...Im expecting a straight forward swap I just hoping someone with experience in swapping out 5.3 in a NNBS for a 6.0 would chime in or someone could possibly point me to a thread, hopefully I dont run into any surprises

try searching on performancetrucks.net. I think that chassis is the same as the tahoe from that year so there should be some threads on people going from the 5.3 to the 6.0.

I have this cross posted over there...I have read a couple threads now, I have mostly what I need....now wondering can I mill the heads .030 add LS9 head gaskets and run 7.350" pushrods, would I have to worry about PTV with the stock cam?

Actually the same as the Suburban; same wheelbase, essentially a Suburban with the rear roof chopped off and the famous midgate added.
