Default ls in h body

hi there i recently picked up a 76 sunbird with a 3.8 v6 im looking to put my 4.8 into it. ive seen people use the stock h body v8 mounts but they are rare as hens teeth. my plan was to run a pedestal type mount on the v6 mount ears its 1/4 inch steel should be able to support the motor what do you think what have others done in monzas or vegas i cant seem to find any pics of how they mounted the motors

I saw a nice condition green / white 76 at the local show a couple weekends ago.

I am really a fan of the stands that mount to the cradle and leave the rubber mounts bolted to the engine (See Spohn for F-Body / G-Body). You have a bolt in cradle, I think, and a shallower pan clearance. Might have to fab some up yourself though.

Hey, keep watching evilbay and go on the H-body site. The mounts are out there. At a minimum you will need the lower "frame" mount side. I did a 4.3 into a '76 Vega using the V-8 Monza mounts. Went together nice.

Keep an eye out for rust. The frame kick-ups under the floor boards are a very poor design and rust badly (guess how I know!). The rails are thin and rust didn't help. I broke my frame with the 4.3 and had to do a tube frame to fix it. A Jegster Chassis is another good way to make this work.

There was a guy in the Chicago area running a notchback Vega a couple years back (crashed it at Byron or Great Lakes) that made Hot Rod Mag. They had some good info on how it was done.

i understand the usual way using these frame ears but they dont come abouts often and if they do they are astronomical in price by the time i get them to the great white north canada. so i was thinking of welding tabs onto the side of the frame rail and using a weldon bushing type pedestal mount prob be more then adequate and most likely stronger then these ears. thats how the front mount kits mount too you just weld to the frame rail

You could also start with the Don Hardy kit. Should get you very close to the correct location. V8Monza.org has the kit. I tried the Trans-Dapt kit, wouldn't work for me.
