The E36 BMW hatch is loathed by most - and that's fine by me - laden with the best of E30/E36 innate design, better Aero than both, and functional utility greater than any, the chassis just lacks what BMW could have done (M Coupe rear half / M3 front half). Well, I've already created one of those... so time to build Ultimate - my favorite BMW chassis coupled with LS 6.0L base + LS3 base heads... and all proper parts to do it right. That's GOT to equate to a healthy 'tool for the job'.
ill find out soon -

Reason: Needs a pic
Fuel lines created, routed etc, power steering lines will get created and installed this week, FiTech wiring plugs getting plugged
Just 1 of 4 under-Manifold vacuum lines needs a lead on it FiTech sheetmetal intake and gaskets Intake Manifold on, fuel injectors plugged in I need extensions for alternator wiring
FiTech wiring / schematics caused start delay due to Cam sensor wires being pinned wrong. Taking note of what signals go where at my sensor, and working backwards, found pinout issued. Simple de-pin, re-pin.
Then, with no clear markings etc for Coils Harness, i had both banks exactly backwards. Fixed one side, vehicle at least started... that firing-Side header got very warm quickly - other bank 1-4cy header was not... sooooo, Swap 1-4 with 4-1.... and boom fired up.
Tis quite rev happy given I just popped in a few engine details... and it started.
No more starting until coolant tank shows up and I install the radiator (all cooling system), fan, etc... then get to a dyno to break new motor in and time etc
Emulate No One Getting closer It’s surprising even to me each time I remove cover how this vehicle has come together DIY style... not one ‘pro’ has touched this build
Im happy to see that got noticed - a segment from an old 540i intake kit that I wanted to piece meal together... my ‘goal’ would be that The Dinan sticker throws off people scent just enough for me to pawn the motor off as “just a 4.4L 540i V8”

Love following this one. My wife's favorite car was her 318ti - from '97-'08. 11 years of driving enjoyment. Brake light switch the only failure in 110k miles/11 years of ownership.

The joy of functional utility - my Daughter, 4yrs old at the time (now just 6yrs), has her own fully refreshed BMW Hatch
I know this is LS-centric /Americana type website - I’m reverent of the fact... I served our country - in 2 branches - I earned the privilege to buy a used German car and fix it up - the V8 car will be pulled by my 2017 L5P GMC 3/4 Ton... so hopefully things balance themselves out

You nailed it Michael! Cars are only machinery.... obsessed over, loved upon, defended to the death machinery! LOL! Nothing to have to justify or rationalize...
I have no idea what I’m doing... This actually looks like something useful!!! It sure would have been nice to have at least One shop class in my life - regardless, the end result is actually even better than the pics show 3.73 3-clutches, ramped, etc - custom axles, diff hangars tie in with cage, custom brakes, Fikse 3-piece wheels for any street use... blah blah 3 full quarts of Motul instead of 1.5q factory capacity

ive started car 3 times... and am on pause to start again until I install my ‘fancy’ oil cooler, install radiator, locate/install the coolant expansion tank, fresh oil, fresh non-coolant Evans Coolant.
today was add more ‘fancy’ Fluid to diff and finish creating switch panel.
Is the finned portion of the diff as close to the ground as it appears?
higher than... the V-bands at the header collectors as well as the RTAB on the front tubular SLR Control Arms...
and that said, once I weight balance the car and all corner heights are set, I will be measuring for the actual “Inch” number - that’s a more appropriate answe for you!
Tomorrow, I’ll get the ‘fancy’ Motul Trans Fluid installed
and will Challenge myself to mount my Metal Expansion tank in a unique location - and find a spot for my Derale Dual-Fan Oul cooler to be Fed by this Lingenfelter Oil Cooler Adapter i installed low on block on driver side, aft.
Had to laugh -- first thought was "saying it's higher than other important bits is kind of like saying Barbara Bush is better looking than Janet Reno"....
Not so bad for a track rat I 'spose. I can still remember getting cross-ways up on high alligatored curbs at Texas World Speedway infield track and grinding a flat off of the drain plug on the oil pan of my ITC car a few decades ago. Sounded worse inside the car than it turned out being.
