Default starter options

I have a 2004 GTO LS1 in a 69 chevelle. I have long tube headers which fit great with one exception. the small lug on the starter solenoid is clocked at the worst possible location so that it is very close to the headers. Any options with lug at a different location on the solenoid??

That's the only starter I've seen with a tab sticking off of it like that. Is it mounted to the solenoid that way or is it just an extension of the smaller stud on the solenoid? See if its an extension and remove it.

If not, pretty much any car/truck LS starter will work.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I was under the assumption that any of the small case starters would still work.

Its not a removable tab. My car is in paint at the moment, but I seem to recall it I a rivet holding it onto the solenoid.

that's what I was afraid of. I did see some posts about differences. Nothing that tells me what they actually had to grind down though.

The old Ford solenoid trick that eliminates that small trigger wire may help,also ensures that starter solenoid is getting full voltage on a hot crank.Here is just one of many diagrams so you get the idea.

I believe you can just replace the bellhousing with one from a 4th gen F-body and then you can use most any starter.
