Default will a truck oil pan work?

I bought a 2002 chevy donor truck. I am dropping the 5.3 into my 83 elcamino The pan is in the back like the camino. Was wondering about the depth. Will this pan work? Will it be to low? If so, what is the solution?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...r-pan-lq9.html has some pan information. There is even more in the G-Body swap thread on here.

It will fit. And will be too low. The Camaro pan / pickup tube work with many engine mounts, depending on setback. Holley has some solutions as well.

Thanks Just ordered hooker cast manifolds and a holey 302-2. What about the intake. Will it fit under my hood?

The truck intake won't fit without a cowl. Alt sits real high too. The vette/fbody accessories work best. Buying a complete set used may be cheaper than the new Holley accessories. Holley does make some neat stuff for LS swaps. Sometimes if you switch to ls1 intake, it snowballs into lots of other costly mods like water pump and drive accessories.

Why order the hooker manifolds? Stock truck ones should do just fine.

No, rectangle vs cathedral ports. I've read some have tried it but I wouldn't chance it. Just wait for a ls6 or ls1 intake.

Yes, look for a ls1 or the more pricey ls6 intake. I upgraded from the 1 to 6, sold my ls1 with fuel rails for $150 shipped.

I'm not really sure about the injectors. They will fit ,but may be different flow that could cause an issue with a 5.3 (without a specific tune). The fuel rails will interchange. I'd suggest read a BUNCH of build threads here and via Google.

Well on my way now.

For that intake swap, you may want to look into the LS Idler pulley relocation bracket. From dirty dingo and others. And I would test fit the truck accessories, if it were me.

Default power steering pump

Another question. Will the power steering pump from my elcamino fit onto the power steering bracket on the 5.3?

Can I just put my powersteering pump on and change to a serpentine pulley?

thx

the truck stuff works under a stock gbody hood.
We have the truck setup in an 88 mc ls and I have a 78 Malibu that will get the same setup.

So what are you saying? That the elcamino pump will fit into the truck mounting bracket? Or that you use the truck pump in the elcamino?

I think he is saying the GM LS accessories (PS Alt etc) fit under g-body hoods, you should exchange emails and get a picture.
Does the intake clear the hood as well?

Thx. The intake wont. I bought an LS6 intake. I know the alternator fits. Just trying to figure out how to flange up the power steering. There is mod to do the alternator bracket to allow for the lower intake inlet on the LS6. And a relocation of the idler pulley.

Just trying to figure out which way is the easiest way to mount the power steering pump.

Use the truck pump, or does the camino one bolt directly in and just requires a pulley swap. Keeping my existing hoses intact. Or do I haver to rework the hoses using the truck pump already on the bracket?

The fitting at the back of the truck PS is the same thread /o-ring size as the 83 El Camino.
Unless someone swapped 79 or older stuff in.

So test fit the hose(s). G-bodies, you can use the hi pressure hose from just a ton of GM cars, bend it or route it a bit and it will work. Just try g-body, third gen F body, with AC, without AC.

Go test the truck accessories. And your old PS pump if you want. No one is going to explore the world for you like you.

Yes I meant the truck setup in general...
The truck intake works on Monte carlos, malibu and elcs should be the same. May have to cut the top parts down that are for the cover.
Now I'm sure this depends on what mounts you use, I'd want the one that put the engine low in the bay.
No body wants to spend money unless you have to.
