Why the "LS2" cover
And then, what is the difference between them, and the other GEN IV front covers? Such as this one from an '08 Tahoe engine with a PN:1260 0326
I've tried to compare pictures, but pictures don't tell you measurements. So......that is where I sit.
If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated
It has the cam sensor in the front to pickup the reluctor mark on the cam gear. it works the same whether you use a 1x cam gear or 4x cam gear.
The complete ls2 front cover comes with cover, crank seal (installed), cover gasket, bolts, cam sensor, cam sensor harness, and harness bolt. its literally a complete assy.
The 12600326 is bare. cover only
The new pn for the complete cover ia 12633906.
They have to be used on all gen4 blocks and the gm lsx block.
The truck front covers utilize the vvt cam phaser on the front of their engines and that cover includes that. So any vvt engine has to have that.
IF you are removing vvt, you swap to the ls2 front cover kit.
Thats it.
If you had a GEN IV front cover that was a DOD engine, pre VVT, then would it work? The sensor location is the same. No VVT components. And would it still clear a 4x 3 bolt cam gear?
The vvt engines use a different cover but only because the electrical part of the phaser is in the cover.
