Default Mechanical / belt driven fan ?

I would like to use belt driven fan in my project. No any other reason than just looks. Would it work if use standard truck motor reverse rotation water pump and machine adapter to fit 70's visco/thermo clutch on it. Then just flip the fan blade ?

Stock truck clutch? It wont look as period correct as old ones does. I want retain classic look.

No offense, but you're sticking a LS engine in an old car and you want "classic look?" Those old fans cost like 30HP...no joke...

Not even close. Fully coupled Duramax fan cost me 12 hp at the tires. The reason that is important is that fan is a massive 21" fan, with something like 9 steeply pitched blades.

For period correct look find a 5 or 7 blade metal blade from an Express van or 4.3 GMT400 truck.

The S-series blazer with 4.3 has a reverse rotation fan blade that matches a SBC G-body fan shroud nicely.

I don't know if the LS water pump will center the blade relative to the SBC location.

But I wouldn't rule out a thermo clutch fan. Knowing your fan won't die in the desert relaxes the nerves.

And stop with the Flex-A-Lite horsepower numbers BS, please.

Not even close. The fan on a Duramax spinning at 3500 rpm will drag down that torquey diesel a lot less than on a 5.3 at 5500 rpm,need to compare apples to apples here...

You could look into an aftermarket pump like Edelbrock, Might be easier to adapt a fan to it but they aren't cheap either.

You realize I never said the Duramax fan is on a diesel. It is on a small block 350 Vortec in an Express van and got pulled to 5,800 rpm. Duramax fan is a clutch fan and the clutch I used was a Napa HD thermal replacement for a 6.0L Trailblazer SS. Biggest loss of power was in the 4,500 rpm range. I run a 30% underdrive crank pulley but the fan is still overdriven in relation to the crankshaft. Even pulling a heavy trailer I have not seen the engine run hotter than about 190°F. You can feel when the fan kicks in fully but 99% of the time ot basically freewheels on the end of the water pump and only locks when the engine is pulling hard at slow speeds.
