Default 06 GMC Sierra engine swap

Looking to swap an engine into my 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD. Engine is completely shot and I've been thinking of adding something better. This is my first time swapping an engine on my own so very open to suggestions. I've been thinking of a salvage donor for an l92. Have a couple of questions and doubts though. Thanks everyone in advance

Well with your engine being a 2006 it is considered a gen4 engine. A l92 should swap right in but will take some work.

U will need the lingenfelter conversion box form 58 tooth to 24tooth reluctor.

U will have to drill and tap the side of the block for your stock knock sensors to fit and get a conversion harness

Custom tuning.

Thin everything else should swap right over. IF i was u i would do away with the DOD and AFM if u do get a newer engine from the get go. it will only cause problems later on.

So would I be able to just put in the l92 into the 4l80e trans I have now and use the same harness the lq4 used? I know I'd have to change the flexplate over to fit the convertor on but would there be an issue with the 4x4 or is it just a matter of tuning it correctly to keep the 4x4 option

No u can reuse your harness. U will just need tuning and the parts i suggested. Your trans will work also but your original flexplate will be needed.

IF his engine is Gen 4, then BOTH it and the L92 will have 58-tooth sprockets. The L92 is a 6.2L engine intro'd in 2007. No conversion needed.
Having said that, the LQ4, made thru 2006, IS a Gen III. So yeah, then the Lingenfelter box is needed

Yeah this one is gen 3 no vvt or afm. The real question is it worth going through the trouble for the swap? Or should I look for another alternative

An easier route would be to find an LQ9, which is the same basic engine as yours but more power due to more compression and a different cam. If you can find one with anywhere around 150K miles or less you should be good. Just check it out THOROUGHLY.

Or a 2006 ls2/ls6 will be a gen3 24 tooth. and drop right in.
