Default Column shift to floor shift automatic

In my 87 c10 I'm going from automatic column shift to a automatic floor shift (B&M) , do I need to do anything with my column other than remove shift lever. ?

Your neutral safety switch and reverse lights are on the column so you'll have to plan another way to make them work.

It'll start in gear if you do that, not the safest way to do it. Is there not a neutral safety switch available for your shifter?

Yep I'm the only one. And I have no clue how to wire the neutral switch that came with the b&m shifter.

I'm not saying I've never done it because I have...... if you ever plan to take it to the drag strip you won't make it through tech without it working.

Wiring it is easy, just use the wires from the neutral safety switch already on the column.

It's a pretty simple thing to do.

"Yes there is , but I've Ben driving for 30 years and I've never tried to start my vehicle in drive ? I always put it in park when I park my vehicle . just saying"

Saying that isn't going to be nearly as effective as actually having a switch.

Pretty much. You may need to lengthen it. Just google neutral safety switch square body and all sorts of things come up. It's really not difficult. Should be a purple wire from what I'm seeing.

GM is usually heavy gauge purple on NSS.

It basically connects the two purple wire in park and in neutral.

Does an '87 use a neutral safety switch? I know there is a back up light switch at the base of the column near where it goes through the firewall, but I thought that GM started using a mechanical neutral safety in the 80's where the key wont physically turn in anything but the park and neutral positions. I would have to look at one to be sure.

87 is the last year of the square body so it should be at the base of the column but I've never actually worked on one of that year.

That same switch may have the reverse lifts on it as well.
