Default GTO Starter

I have a 2004 GTO 5.7L LS1 engine in a 1930 Model A. I wish to use hooker cast iron headers but hooker states that they will not fit the GTO engine. The block is the same as the camaro and the auto trans 4L60E is the same. Why will the headers not fit?

I would assume they are referring to them fitting when trying to install in the GTO chassis...

As stated I would assume they are referring to the fitment in the GTO itself. I do know that the GTO does use a different starter, but it is physically smaller so I don't think it would be a problem.

The non-compatibility is with the GTO starter, which is due to the solenoid on the starter being clocked further towards the outside of the car than any other LS starter.

Thanks. That was the only thing that i could think of, but have not actually compared the two starters.

Good to know.

Since the Hooker headers won't give any extra power, may I ask why you want to use them?

I'd have to guess that a ls1 powered '30 model A will have way more power than can be put to the ground as is. My thoughts are this isn't a all out effort build here.

It might be a space issue. '30 framerails are TIGHT, like all other cars of that era. Cast manifolds are much easier to deal with,

I was leaning toward wondering why the factory manifolds wouldn't be used.

The Holley ones appear to be a fairly free-flowing design that hugs the block somewhat closer than most of the factory ones.
