B body ls swap

I'm trying to swap an ls in my 82 caprice and want to know if it better to use a truck or car motor and what's the difference

I am in the same boat, planning a swap on my 94 Impala SS. Since I am planning the 6 speed swap as well, I am likely going for an Fbody donor car, but I like the idea of the LQ9's torque to get her big *** moving. Basically the truck motor will be cheaper, but weigh more and not make as much power as it's car brother.

I was lookinh for a donor gto for the whole drive train but I was told that it wouldn't fit

Any LS swap is going to require notching of the cross member and massaging of the trans tunnel. The GTO does use a front sump oil pan, so that would have to be changed. All of the LS engines use the same external dimensions, just different oil pans and front accessories.

wow in same boat ! tomorrow going to ls swap 91 caprice !
i have both ls1 and 5.3 was planning to use 5.3 for boost i will go with ls1 cuz i remove it from running car! and that 5.3 need rebuild
4l60e , modified truck oil pan , 1" set back , aeromtive 360 fuel pump , 660" BTR springs
