Default What’s your harness of choice?

What brand do you like running and why? I’m getting ready to order mine and was wondering what people like to use. Some like a bulkhead separating the engine, others have a brand they like. Mine will be for a LQ4, 4l80e in a 69 F100. Do you prefer to hide the wires or don’t mind the harness being visible.

PSI Conversions - instructions and cust support first rate. Started on the first turn over. Enough slack to put ecu inside the car. I don’t mind harness showing as long as it’s properly routed/secured/loomed.

I had a BP Automotive harness and it looked real good, with labels, and all new. It did take a few weeks to get it, but I wasn't in a hurry. The price was about the same as others.

I like the Howell LS harnesses. They use the braided wire loom which looks so much better than the plastic convoluted wire loom. Very easy wire hook up. Everything well marked.

Sounds like we have some good harness people around here!
Anybody have experience with SpearTech? I have read good things, but personal experience counts more.

I used Speartech on one of my swaps. It was early days of DBW and they had the best reviews. That's been 5-6 years ago. Worked well.. I like to buy the computer and harness from the same source in case I have issues.

I had Spear Tech modify my 2007 ls2 harness some years ago, when they were still doing that. don't think they're doing that any more, my last harness was from BP very nice, all new wires and connectors nice loom, beautiful fuse/relay box, only problem was they wired the fuel pump fuse/relay connection backwards and it took quite a while for them to finally get back to me with a fix, very frustrating.,

On their site, SpearTech says they are not modifying harnesses due to backlog on making new ones. So it might be temporary until they get caught up. Or at least that's the impression I get.....

Beware BP has had some issues, one can only expect is do to his increased volume. There are a few here who had problems and NO customer support to fix. Try a SEARCH. I have used Speartech for my VVT harness and computers and I am very happy with them. John Spears was the only one doing it that I knew of that I could trust. Speartech has a stellar rep. I do *Think* Speartech might offer the harness wrap option now, but not positive. I reached out the Speartech a little while ago as I was thinking about getting a crate engine and asked if they could reprogram my ECM. They said they'd do it for $100 IIRC. Which I thought was a great deal.

If I started a new project, I would try PSI. While I have 100% faith in Johns work, money is always tight and I could save some going with PSI. PSI or Speartech would be the only vendors I'd trust. Contact each for your needs and compare costs. Too many bad comments to trust BP any more.

Yeah you're right about BP and customer support, it took me forever to get him to respond, and the problem was his, not mine. but he does make a nice harness.

Howell, PSI and Jolt look interesting. I’m sure there are others just as good.

I've used Speartech, Painless and PSI. Speartech is by far the nicer looking harness. Painless was more of a bare bones harness, which was evident in the cost. PSI didn't work well for me at all. They don't use as nice of a wire covering as Speartech and have fewer extras built into the harness (I.E. cruise, tap-shift, 12v convenience wires, A/C pass though, etc.). They are the most money though. I'd rather pay more up front rather than deal with a sub-par product.

The first issue was a non charging issue in PSI's programming...the computer went back. Then the fans would run constantly...the computer went back. It went back several times for different things. None of these were a direct problem with the harness, but frustrating none the less.

The issue that WAS harness related was a shutdown of one bank of injectors under load at and near WOT. Between me and (after a lot of frustration) a local speed shop, we could never trace the issue down within the harness after eliminating everything else. I finally decided to pull the harness and swap to Speartech. The issue was resolved.

I've had to contact Speartech a couple of times for various questions and have always gotten a response within a reasonable amount of time. In my case, they weren't hard to get a hold of.

Default Which harness

My vote goes to PSI because of the support. Had a lean condition and their records showed programming a different injector. Sent the computer in on Monday and had it back on Thur in time for a weekend show. No charge. While installing the harness I had a question on the weekend, left message and was called back within an hour.

Cost up front was a hard pill to swallow when I bought my speartech harness/trans controller/gas pedal but I despise electrical problems. It has worked flawlessly. The only issue I had was trans harness was about 4” too short. Called speartech and he made me a 6” extension NO CHARGE. Awesome customer service! I’ve had to call about various things that I was confused about and he’s always been helpful.

I bought mine through Texas Speed and they use PSI, got it in a week. Haven;t installed it yet but if I have problems TSP is only a hour or so from the house and PSI is in NJ. If I have problems I can go jump on AARON'S desk...

I bought a Current Performance Harness. Jared clearly understood how all this worked and was in business LONG before many of these others. He started out specializing in S10's, I think because he had a love for them. He slowly branched out to make harnesses for pretty much everything. He is not the cheapest, and not the fastest. BUT, IF you have ANY questions, EVER, he will talk you through pretty much everything on the phone, modify your harness for you for next to nothing once you have purchased his in the event you change your direction of your build in the future and don't want to modify your own harness.

John Spears was a GM employee who worked in engine management before he broke away and began a company to start manufacturing harnesses.

Do any of the major harness vendors make harnesses like this? I'm currently using a Speartech harness, and it's very nice, but I have to individually disconnect each plug and unthread the harness from the engine/trans if I ever need to pull the engine. I think it'd be awesome if somebody offered a harness with a bolt-through bulkhead connector.
