Default standalone DBW system

Can a GM DBW system function as a standalone system without the PCM or ECU? but used with a compatible pedal, TAC and TB

Short answer, no. It all works together to maintain all engine speeds by referring to all other sensors involved.

is there a long answer any info on how I can fake out the signal the TAC is looking for from the ECU and PCM? Its looks like the TAC communicates serially with the ECU and PCM if I read the wiring correctly. I tried to use an Arduino as controller but with not a good result. The gm system would work better is I could hack it to work as standalone. Any info is appreciated

The problem is it is all so integrated with each other, which is the primary reason for DBW. Idle control is with the ECM; there is no IAC. With a stand alone, you would need a way to control idle, AND a way for the engine to know how much throttle is being applied/used. These types of functions can't be separated to run right.

If all you are trying is open a throttle body with a pedal then all you need is pedal, throttle body and a cheap ecu (e67 $30). Think key on w/o engine running.Give me a call so we can see what your app is. Steve 909 910 3867

How is it supposed to function with the PCM? It already IS a standalone system, the PCM is what controls everything. What are you talking about?

He's asking about the throttle pedal/TB functioning APART from the PCM. I don't think that can happen.

I get that. My question is to why he wants to do that. What problem is he trying to solve and for what application. The DBW is not so simple and has many failsafes built into the system.
There is also a big difference, in terms of hardware, between the gen 3 and gen 4 implementation of DBW.

Steve,

Will the e67 keep the DBW "alive" indefinitely if the engine is not running? I ask because the Holley Dominator will turn the DBW off if it doesn't see an rpm signal after about a minute of ECU "on" time.

i know gen3 will work indefinitely but the blade will go into resting position if it doesn't see a throttle change for 10-15 secs . I don't know how the idle control would work . Depends on what OP is trying to accomplish .

What your talking about used to be called a "repeater" circuit.

It can be analog, BUT (Big issue) if it gets out of sync there is no fail safe, your just stuck with the result.
Its part of why BMW for a time had 2 throttle plates in the throttle body, one was the regular DBW the other
was for failsafe and overrun control. (It was pretty much a on/off kinda thing on the one I had.. )
