Default 97 2 door race jeep

hello all, now that winter is slowly creeping up on us in Illinois its time to start the new daily. So the plans for now is a lowererd 6.0/t400/Np241 or 242 if i find one. would like to do an AWD Typhoonish jeep 2 door then wheel it once i buy some Super duty axles.

This is my S10 i have a build thread on it also.

all tucked in for winter.

here is the jeep before i got it. it used to be a 4.0 with a supercharger from a thunder bird. Was a fun jeep until trans started having issue and it had a ton of blow by. My Buddy pulled drive train and was planning on a ls swap but never got around to it so i picked it up pretty cheap. Engine bay already cleaned up and spray painted with the same stuff i used on my blazer.

How it looks now.

got the chassis wiring laid out

DId some inspection on my spare 6.0. heads needed some valve lapping from being rebuilt. these heads were on my blazer when i bought it years ago. wish i knew what springs it has in it

heads are all sealed now

Got this 80e and np241c cheap but bell is wasted so got a th400 to run

97 2 door race jeep-qux7jybl.jpg

the output on the Th400 is about 1.25" to long so will be trimming this soon. i want to find a NP 242 cause they have the full time 4wd with a good 48/52 tq split. Looks like i could use input shaft from the 241 but need to do some research on it. will be redoing the brake lines this week and ordering mounts. i got a nasty SNL NA cam for it and ls2 intake. I really want to boost this thing tho. we will see. swap headers are about the same price as a turbo.

I will be running a micro squirt set up on this one. i already have the tuner studio ultra and mega logger HD and dont wanna buy Hp just for one jeep.

Stay tuned and if any one have any experience in these swaps hook me up.

i hate brake lines and didnt care if they looked pretty lol

The NOVAK mounts went in nice and easy. Think i can use the truck pan but the truck intake is a bit to high.

Do you think that 242 TC will stand up to a bunch of HP? Do they make a wide chain kit for the 242 TC like they do for a 231 TC? Does the Jeep have 35 rear axle? That won't last long. I did a 8.8 Explorer under my 98 TJ LS swap. 4:10 gears and posi Explorer rear ends are pretty common and cheap. The are a number of weld on bracket kits available. I have a 241R out of a Rubicon. It's worked well but it's not AWD.

the 242 has a wider chain than stock 231. i have a 241c just in case. i have the 8.25 29 spline in it now. will put a 8.8 if it breaks. i am rocking a cut down 8.8 with 35 spline shafts in the blazer. what did u do for gauges. i want most of the stock ones to work.

I used the Novak 4L60E conversion main shaft for the 241R. It has a port for the VSS pick up to control the 4L60E in high range and low range properly. For the speedo I just reconnected the output connection on the rear of the 241R. So the stock speedo works as it should.
Ten years ago the Jeep tach and the signal from the LS1 computer didn't play well together. So I mounted a smaller aftermarket tach behind the windshield A pillar. Also I didn't like the stock oil pressure gauge. Mounted the oil pressure gauge right above the tach.. Can't see either from the outside of the vehicle.
I think Novak now makes some type of conversion harness so the stock tach works. All the other gauges work as stock.

not going all out on this one. i just want a fun daily with heat and ac with some power lol was messing with manifolds last night and trying to figure out the best way to fit a turbo. I might be able to build a log and run one gt45 or s475 or would be easier to do twins. I was thinking about some small hx35 or t3/t4 turbos with internal waste gates. im not looking for 800+ hp but around a 650hp reliably. Going to price some log parts today.

Got a few things done last night. got the NP241 in place just mocking things up for now.
thing hangs kinda low

working on the driver side manifold to build a cross over for a log style set up

basically making this out of scraps i have laying around lol

This was a down pipe from an EVO

97 2 door race jeep-zn90snml.jpg

Borrowed a buddies CX racing twin turbo kit from a GTO. could def make this work but the headers alone are 400. Thats out of budget for me but just incase some one was wondering what fits. those will fit nicely.

97 2 door race jeep-m5cue6cl.jpg

Im trying to see how low budget can swap a XJ. so far
300 for jeep
600 for 6.0
200 for trans and np241
250 for mounts

USing stock XJ cross member. will need to drill a could holes in it once i get good and centered. The Front drive shaft yoke is pretty close to the cross member so might have to clock it or trim the x member. heading to junk yard maybe next weekend and find a dana 30 and a 4wd shifter. Buddies hooking me up with a SNL cam and some good springs, LS2 intake and rail with some ID1000s and a DW 340 fuel pump. The cam isnt IDEAL for boost but we will see what it does with one GT45 or S366 or s475.
Hopefully knock more of the log and cross over out tonight. need to order some V bands and a t4 flange.

got the input planetary swapped from the Np241 into 242 last night. planetary is a 6 gear instead of 3 but the out put shaft is dinky compared to the NP241c

Chain comparison. 242 on the left and 241 on right
97 2 door race jeep-cxcgvdfl.jpg

Few differences between the two
97 2 door race jeep-lefh8lzl.jpg

242 about ready to be sealed up.
97 2 door race jeep-novl3hdl.jpg

Main reason i went 242 is to keep the stock yokes on front and rear and also the speed input. i want most of the factory gauges to work.

I should have it fully assembled after i get some new seals n maybe snap rings. Need to chop output on trans still and freshen it up. Should have cam and springs in a week or so installed and will get engine back together shortly after. i ready to do some AWD burnouts lol
