i wanted to buy Mikes' Bada$$ 1966 Nova SS but he didn't want to sell so we looked ans I almost bought a real Turd ans then by absolute Lightning strike luck He found this tasty little Morsel! And I got it for half the price!!

Mike put a few hours in on the port side engine mount Monday and Tuesday. Pictures to come soon.

Progress on the frame rails Monday and Tuesday.

The frame rails get tied into the front stub mounts, perimeter welded and rail heads that extend into the stubs get plug welded.

The rails at the rear extend straight to the rear frame member and near the end pickle fork of to the remnants of the factory bumper mount-frame rail.

These rails should really stiffen up the chassis.

Goal is to have cross member in with tabs for coil overs and panhard bar in by end of week.
The finished , fitted frame rail. Mike has exact duplicate rail on bench just to the left to be finished and welded.

Default Creating Rear Frame Rails

Mike and I decided to create frame rails that tie into the front stub struts to continue to the rear of the car.


Creating and fitting and fabricating the frame rail.

Creating and fabbing and tacking the rear of the frame rail.

The altitude of the bottom of the frame rail will be higher than the factory front stub strut. The flange for plug and perimeter welding the frame rail to the strut.

the area where the front stub strut will nest.

One rail done and the start of the next one.

Default Welded Motor Mountd and Accesory Drive Mock Up



The welded motor mount doing what it does best and mocking up the AC compressor bracket




Mocking up and creating the AC compressor bracket for a "hold-in-your-hand" model for measuring for whittlin out of billet. Also thinkulating on the power steering pump and reservoir.

66-67 novas are top 5 favorite for me but all the work to fit a decent sized rear tire and front end work moving shock towers steers me away every time. You’re a better man then me! Lol is that trans crossmember welded to the frame? Do you have to remove engine and trans together like that or is there a way to remove trans another way?

The tabs are welded to the frame rails. If you look closely on the tab you will see a through bolt head. The tranny and engine can be split and removed individually.


Mike, the man fabbing this car knows these cars intimately. This car is being built on a table and he has created jigs from the TCI 2 link torque arm suspension to enable us to install the suspension to hard points actually welded to the car. Mike has his kick-*** 66 SS that he will redo from these references if this car performs well.

With all the modern engineered suspensions available for these cars hot rodding these little gems is easier and fun! Just make sure you are not afraid to throw money at the project!

Default Brackets For Torque Arm Crossmember

Mike Said "Here is one side of the torque arm crossmember mounting brackets. I used a piece of tubing on the bench so i didnt have to crawl under the car to do this. They will be welded together here then slipped on the frame rail and welded in place where the jig is at under the car. They might look a little funny but they will get the job done. And then some."

I think the brackets will look great!

Ta Da, Bracket goodness! Welder up and create one for the other side!

These brackets will hold the bolt in crossmember for the pivot point of the TCI 2 arm torque link suspension. We are going with all weld-in suspension stiffening and hard points from which the TCI bolt in suspension will mount.
