Default AC Hoses

I know I had a picture of this somewhere on my computer but I can't find it anywhere. I'm going to have AC hoses made soon. The compressor has two ports on it. One connects to the bottom of the drier, one connects to the condenser.

Which port on the Sanden compressor goes to the condenser and which one goes to the drier?

Thanks,
Brandon

Default A/c Stuff

This diagram helped me, big time, but I made my own A/C system with aftermarket parts. My vehicle was a non A/C, 1971 C10 truck. There are 2 ports on the A/C Compressor. I think the A/C hose sizes for the compressor are #10 and #8. On my jerry rig system, my drier (in) and (out) had #6 A/C lines which came from the compressor and went to the #6 on the Condenser. I hope this helps. My drier was in between the A/C and the Condenser. Good luck.

Actually neither line of the compressor connects to the drier. The larger suction line should come from the evaporator outlet (or VIR or POA) if you have one. The small high pressure line goes to the top of the condenser. The drier typically goes on the liquid line coming from the bottom of the condenser and heading to the TXV or orifice tube.

Thanks for the response. I think mine may be a bit different. I scanned a page from an original shop manual. There is a line coming out of the bottom of the drier that goes to the compressor.

My Sanden is set up as Bandit describes - Outlet of Evap to suction side of Sanden (biggest hose), discharge side of compressor to condenser inlet (medium size hose); condenser outlet to filter/drier to inlet of Evap (smallest hoses). IIRC...

Crude - but like this. Arrows indicate freon flow. And on mine, an expansion valve (or orifice) in between the filter/drier and the evap.

I believe the setup you guys are describing is how our '71 Pontiac is setup. The drier on it is mounted on the core support out next to the condenser, though.

You can see mine -- bottom/left of pic - on passenger side inner fender near front bulkhead/fascia.

Vetteman, you have an accumulator, not a drier, they do the same basic job, but are plumbed differently. The smaller port coming out of the compressor, the high side, will go to the condenser, the larger port on the compressor, the suction, or low side will go to the accumulator.

And, if the accumulator has desiccant in it (drier) and the system has been open to atmosphere --- then it will need to be replaced before you charge it up.
