Default 08 Truck alternator for race car? Already searched.

From what I've learned from this thread... :
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ion-guide.html

...I simply need to send power to the correct alternator pin so that it will charge.

My questions are:

1) Does the 08 Tahoe/truck alternator have a built-in voltage regulator like many alternators, or does there need to be a PCM to control it? It would be silly to have the alternator going full bore all the time, or at least it seems silly.
2) Can I just send power from the coil harness instead of switched power? I ask this since I won't be using a key to start the car, but instead I'll be using a push-button.

Thank you to all that may have information for me.

Even with a push button start you will still have to have an ignition switch to supply power and turn off power to everything. Even if it's a toggle switch or switch running a main power relay.

2008 alternator is probably a 2 pin. Doesn't work with a resistor, you just can't send it power.

It's got a built in regulator controlled by the PCM. Here is some info:

Thank you so much for this info. I like how you can set it to whatever charge level you want. Makes me wonder why I'd ever want the 4 pin alternator to begin with, other than simplicity.

Thanks again!

For simplicity, don't hook any wires to the 2 pin alternator. It will charge at 13.8 volts in default mode. That's a little low for some, but others have used it that way without problems.
