Default Get Shorty by Jarhead

Some pictures of a little project that I just found.
Get Shorty is a 185 inch rear engine dragster that I found for sale. Set up for a Chevy Small block and full length power glide.
included in the deal was about everything minus engine and transmission.
Headers for both big and small block plus radiator etc.
Has not been run since 2014.
It is pictured here mocked up with an LS1 block and power glide case.
The rear is 9 inch Ford with Summers Brothers 40 spline axles, 4.86 gears and a spool.
Wilwood rear disc brakes.
We are going to completely go through the car to update and change a few things.
I will run my LS3 with 850 Holley and a power glide that I have.
Just something to go out and play with every now and then.
The guy that owns the shop and I have been friends over 50 years and he and I and a couple of other guys are going to have fun with what should be a reliable, cheap car to run.

B50 spare tank from Return to Snake River canyon jump. Now mine!

Actual B50 tank used in Snake River jump.

My first rocket dragster now in Garlits museum.

Get Shorty when purchased.
Thought I would add a bit of a teaser.
not only is Get Shorty going to be run as a bracket car with my LS3, it is also going to be fitted with a steam rocket!
much more powerful than my peroxide car.
Get Shorty will only be used for system figment and very low pressure system testing.
My steam rocket is an exact clone of Scott Truax’s canyon jump motor.
After testing the rocket motor will go into a purpose built chassis to go for the 1/8th and 1/4 mile records.

I think you should put lights on it and register it. Imagine seeing that at a stoplight. LOL

Rebuilt version. Walt Arfons built.

Initial run ended in 260 mph crash!
Image of identical size steam rocket running at 30% power!
Bad chassis design held this car from reaching it’s potential.

Here is 100% power! Zero to 412mph in under 4 seconds going almost straight up! I think I will have enough power!

Yes, too much “down angle” to the motor, too high of center of gravity, short wheelbase of 135 and gusty wind and a bumpy airport runway and over she went!

Hope this loads.
Duane Landon steam rocket dragster 1966.
I think the parachute picked up the rear end and or he hit brakes and around he went!
