Regular fluid changer here - DD at the time of swap was a Honda. Aluminum block, alum heads, alum radiator for both of em. Good enough for Honda, good enough for me. Kept it simple - didn’t have to keep track of different brands. ‘Course, Honda replaced with the Mazda - so I’m back to 4 cars, 4 different coolants. LOL....

Been doing research, looks like dexcool is more for a sealed system. My next swap will have an open cooling system so, conventional green it is.

I have an old car with brass radiator and heater core so I did American conventional green coolant. American green would be a solid choice for iron block too. And I don't drive much so the American conventional green wins again because it forms a protective barrier fast. Dexcool can take thousands of miles to form a good barrier.

Aluminum block, heads, and radiator win out to other types of coolants. The Japanese really got their **** together. I'd maybe look at Toyota's proprietary coolant. It's made of pixie dust and dragon sweat because that stuff lasts forever.

Yup - I use Subie coolant in the Subie, Mazda coolant in the Mazda, Honda coolant in the LS swap, and Advance Auto green in the new Toy - iron block, alum head/rad, copper heater core. Threw a zinc anode in the upper rad tank.

I have a standard open radiator, I run green coolant in my GMC... iron block, alum heads, alum/plastic radiator. No issues in 3 years, runs nice and cool. I flushed the block well before filling with green coolant.

Anything with a cap that holds pressure is a sealed system. Some systems the cap is on the reservoir instead of the radiator - but they're all sealed.
