Build Thread: Quad Turbo LS Swap AWD B5 S4 Project is underway
It’s officially starting. I have been waiting to start this build thread for sometime. Now it’s finally underway.
And yes you read that right 4 turbo (just for fun) LS Swap - LQ4 to start AWD All on a 2001 Audi S4 shell
I’m still working out a lot of the details and still don't know if A LOT of the details will work. But I know you guys will help me out when I get stuck. Yes I made a new account since LS1tech no longer allow Username change.
I have a pretty aggressive target to have it driving by October 30th 2020 as I’d like for this to make it to an Airstrip Attack event this year. Wishful thinking and so little time. I better get to work.
For those wondering why the above combo: After my last 600whp WS6, I’m ready to move on to an AWD V8 turbo Powerplant. Also got inspired by my current DD 2003 C5 RS6.
Cut up the stock cross member to make room. Luckily I didn't have to cut it all the way and have to make a full custom front cross member.
I will add bracing once everything is finalized.
Also cut up a brand new GTO oil pan. Well more like trimmed.
I got the adapter from Eric at kitcarchassis.
Adapter itself is just a plate to bolt trans/engine. the internal is a custom flywheel that mates to 01E clutch. In my case because I wanted to hit big power so I went with multi disk. Otherwise he does offer them in single disk.
Not really sure, the trans seems to be able to handle running 800whp+
Diff is another story. I think its a lot lower. Once things are sorted out, it will get upgraded.
4.5" ground clearance but coilovers is dropped.
Worse part I think is its low that far forward. Should be fine though. If not ill figure something out.
More updates: The modified cross member has been welded. feels pretty solid now/no more flex.
I've also decided to delete the false firewall. More room.
This build is nuts! I've always had a love for the old B5 chassis.
I'd look at making an aluminum belly pan, but it doesn't look like you'd have much to fasten it to, and as low as it already is, may turn into something more likely to catch on something.
The look of the clearance is deceiving in the photos, however, and it looks like you do still have a reasonable amount at 4.5".

Thanks
Yea I was actually looking at Rally cross style skid plate to protect the pan. I dont mind building a solid cage under so it pushes up on the frame if I ever hit something.
Last thing I need is trashing the engine and mounts because of the pan catching on something.
