LSA/4l80E into 72 Chevelle
Ok, I've been studying this forum for a long time, but now it's my turn to post my swap. Here's a little backstory to the car. My uncle bought this car in 1974. In the mid-90's the original 2 barrel carb started acting up and my uncle parked it on my grandpa's farm. It sat there about 6 months until we pulled it into the trees. It was in the trees for a few years until I was old enough to realize that it was a "cool" car. I begged my uncle all the time to sell it to me until finally my junior year in high school he gave it to me as an "early graduation" gift. I pulled the original 350/TH350 and had them both rebuilt with upgrades. I threw a cowl hood and some Cragar S/S wheels on it and rocked the **** out of the car for the rest of high school.
I sanded all the original paint and vinyl top off the summer before I left for college (2003). I brought it to a body shop before I left for school. There was a very small patch needed on the right rear quarter panel wheel opening lip and a trunk floor replacement. I picked the car up the following summer and it was now Dodge Viper 'N Tense blue with white stripes.
During the last 15 years the car has also recieved a Ford 9", 4-wheel disc brakes, and a 700R4. Last year I decided to have the stripes painted glass black and a few rock chips/dings fixed in the paint.
I decided to go the LS route on this setup. I put a cammed LS3 in my WS6 Trans Am and that got me hooked. So I bought a L92, a 4l80E, and ZL1 supercharger for the Chevelle. I removed the front clip from the car for the 350/700r4 removal. I figured I already had half the car off of the frame, I might as well go all the way. So I gutted the interior and lifted the body off the frame to do it right. I was very happy to find only surface rust, there is ZERO rot/rust anywhere on the underside. I dont know how I got so lucky, because my uncle didn't garage this car a day in his life. I am anticipating an easy 650 hp and CAN NOT WAIT to hear that supercharger whine!!
In addition to painting and reinforcing the frame, I plan on adding tubular front control arms, upgraded rear control arms, 13" front rotors. I'm still trying to figure out which wheel. I love my 15" Cragar S/S wheels but I'm leaning toward 17" Boze Lateral-G wheels. I'm having all of my chrome trim and emblems painted gloss black. I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to paint the bumpers gloss black also or if something like a gunmetal gray would look pretty good. Whatever I do, I will match the color of the wheels with the bumpers.

Korndawg, glad to see you're back! Hope everything is going good. My car's original color is the color your car currently is, mine had the same chrome trim on the bottom and the wheel wells...almost twins except mine had the vinyl top. I've been following your build and checking for updates every couple of weeks..

Well I've been doing the boring stuff that isn't any fun to read about. I did test fit the engine/trans before removing the body and it fit great with the Hooker components. I've been scraping all the loose factory undercoating off the floor pans and then applying my own and painting the underside of the body. Might I add, the factory floor pans are beautiful! I sent the frame out for sandblasting and got it back today. I primed the frame and set the body back onto it in anticipation of winter starting soon. The sandblaster said my frame is "beautiful" and one of the best he's ever seen!

Great project. So that's where all the used LSA superchargers were when I was looking! Great project I'll be following along closely. I have a 68 Camaro and I picked up an L92 and LSA supercharger this fall and will be building it this winter.

My wife asked me the same thing when I bought 4 LSA's several years ago for $505 a piece and the CTS-V lid for $100 with the throttle body. She didn't say much when I sold 1 s/c for $1750, will sell another this winter sometime, and then use one on my Chevelle, and save one for the '69 Camaro I am buying when the Chevelle is "done". I bought them knowing they'd go up in price...I should've bought more.....

500 was a steal. Smart move.
