Has anyone installed one the their trunk?
What model was it?

Why not run an under dash unit?

No reason it can't work, just will need longer hoses made. It also will not blow cold air right onto you as driver. There were several cars of the 50's when A/C was first coming out and used rear mounted evaporators.

And there's a reason they dont do that any more! Generally in an automobile you need the air to blow directly on the passengers. The A/C will never cool well enough to try and cool it like a house, unless you have a house size unit in the trunk....

I have the standard under dash vintage air kit and have been thinking about adding a secondary trunk unit, If someone had a unit that could piggy back off the Vintage air 5V reference controls, I would likely do it. I'm running the denso 10S20F compressor that ran a dual system in many gm trucks and vans.I just don't know how you could run it without at least a second fan switch. My car lives in Florida. I would also agree you need the air blowing directly on passengers and ducting it from the trunk to the front seat is a long reach and would be hard to hide and insulate.

As a second unit I would thin a trunk mounted one would be fine. You would have to have a blower on it though or else it would probably freeze into a solid chunk of ice. Not sure how a factory dual set up works, but seems like they are always on together.

It would have to work similar to the rear units in Suburbans/Tahoes. Maybe even use some of the components.
