Default 1966 chevelle LS2 build

Good morning Ls1tech crew. My name is Dave and I’ve begun my introduction into the ls swap car build world. I bought a 1966 chevelle ss. It’s a Canadian version which was available in several engine configurations. Mine came with a 283 and a power glide transmission which I’ve had the car for a number of years and for a multitude of reasons am only getting to start working on it now. Once I decided to go with an ls engine I began looking for a donor. I searched all around before going to my local little scrap yard and found my donor. A 2006 Chevy trailblazer ss. It has an LS2 and a 4l70e transmission. Bought it for $800 delivered to my home. I got the engine and tranny out as well as any other parts I thought I might need and the scrap yard came and took the body away.
The car needs a bunch of body work so I’m starting with the engine rebuild. I disassembled it with the help of the “how to rebuild GM ls engines. Lots of shiny colourful pictures. It seemed it had been well taken care of thru it’s previous life, came apart easy, really clean.
Next up some pics to make it real...

Just a pic of the rebuilt 243 heads and the cleaned up intake. This is a test to see if I can figure out posting pics properly.

So before going with the Ls2 I had no idea about anything swap related. My engine has the e40 ecm and t42 tcm. I’m realizing that there is not a step by step video on YouTube for this exact combo for reworking the factory harness into a stand-alone for my swap. I’ve put together as much info as I can and started the wiring harness. I’m hoping to find some help with a few problems I’ve run across.

Here is the harness on the operating table. So far I’ve deleted and depinned the 2 rear o2 sensors and the oil pressure sensor.

Would this be the vss plug? It’s last in line after the Round tranny plug. Do I keep the vss?

I can’t figure this one out. It’s a blue and grey wire next to the cam sensor plug

Another one I can’t figure out. Light green, dark green, black. Same area between the passenger side knock sensor plug and the cam sensor. Any ideas?

I figured out the white plug with the blue and grey wire it’s the second knock sensor. I traced the wires on the other plug with the 3 wires. 2 wires went to the fuse block and the third went in thru the fire wall. Still not sure what it is?

Holley makes excellent swap components for the GM a-bodies. You can also choose the Holley Terminator X Max for the ECU and harness. It will make tuning a lot easier if you ever decide to modify the engine.

check out lt1swap.com its a great resource for reusing a factory harness.
if you dont already own efilive or hp tuners, then the holley could be a sound choice for your build depending how tight the budget is.
you will spend a few more dollars on the holley but it will give you better logging capabilities, a self tuning function more applicable for mods and hot rodding, and it will have a few extra inputs and outputs the factory ecm doesnt.
you can definitely have a very functional and reliable combo with the factory ecm as well, GM has fantastic ECMs, it will just be a little bit more effort.

Hi. Ya I tried lt1 swap. I had read everything he had on 6l ls engines before I got delivery of my donor car. I thought it would be a breeze with the step by step instructions over there. It all went for a crap on me when I found out my 2006 Ls2 has an e40 ecm that that site doesn’t support. I’m finding it hard to get thru as Information is limited and scattered about. I’m stubborn tho and will keep grinding away at it. I think there is a member here who had swapped the same engine goes by Fst_Byrd. I hope to stumble across him.
Thanks for the info

Does anyone know how to wire the transmission range switch. Half the wires (#4,5,6,8) go to the ecm so no problem there. one is ground #7, 2 are 12 v switched (#11, 12)no problem there.
now the remaining 3 are the ones I don’t know.
All 3 went to the fuse block.
#1 pnp clutch/start switch signal
#9 park neutral position switch signal
#10 back up lamp supply voltage (this one seems simple, powers reverse lights)

any ideas are appreciated

Bill at BP Automotive might answer some questions for you. I bought my e40 ls2 harness from him. Excellent quality.
