Bosch 044 Check Valve; Keep or remove?
He is talking about the banjo outlet fitting. Which is also a check valve. It can be removed. Also many come with an AN8 adapter.
The issue is clearly that baby pre filter and line. Remove it and install something suitable and continue on with the Walbro IMO. I doubt that setup needs the 044 and they are typically louder. No reason to reinvent the wheel here. -8 feed and use a filter with some actual media area. Somethign like this...

Whatever pump you use, follow the manufacturers recommendation and not use too small of filter media (filtration rating) on the inlet. e.g. 100um or larger rated filter media with enough surface area to not clog after 20gals of fuel flow.
