Test drove around the block last night, Idle is a little funky and my transmission having a tad trouble shifting, going to double check some settings and get more things cinched down to take a proper shake down cruise.
I had to go out and take some pictures of the finished product as it sits today. Still need to finish the firewall, plug the bad hole and seal around the wiring harness, also wanted to show the computer tucked away into the glove compartment, and I was able to hide the touchscreen in the old ash tray, so at when it's parked you'd never know in the interior it had any electronics. While I was routing wires I also hid a bluetooth receiver and dash speaker in there so I can have some music to cruise with (the am radio is going back in, but it's just for show/dead)
I'm really happy with how the ash tray turned out, I had to cut some metal out to squeeze it in and make a hole and grommet to route the wire through. The TB setup is a Delphi truck reproduction, 10379038 Pedal assembly and the early truck DBW harness on terminator X. Love to see the old Pontiacs getting back on the road, I'm gonna go check the conversion page for you build now!
With Holley EFI, DBW is really an excellent options. You can use the Impala SS pedal, which is easier to mount. It's not listed as being supported in the Holley documentation, but I, and several of my customers have used it without issues. It's practically a bolt in for 68-72 A-bodies, so it can't be that different for the early cars.
I originally was going to buy the terminator with dbw but my engine/tuner guy suggested staying dbc. As it's what he does with a lot of builds and seems to be his preference.

That's good info about the pedal, I wonder why they don't list it? I took the bracket assembly that was with the 10379038 pedal and made standoffs out of pipe stock, then bolted it to the firewall with nylon locks and grounding washers on outside.
@@Tramminc the gauge in the ash tray is the 3.5" display for the Terminator X, below it are some stewart warners for oil/temp and a mock reproduction tachometer for 65 tempest that takes where a gauge blank/clock used to go.

Yesterday I took an extended shake down cruise and went to and from a lunch spot with mostly no drama, couple things that happened
1) need to maybe play with some of the IAC ramp up controls, because the idle dips too low coming to a stop in gear
2) the ICT alternator pulley bracket got loose and almost shredded the belt and
3) the transmission seems to be having issues some pump/line pressure issues, went full throttle for first time in second and it feels like it slipped out of gear. It was a half quart low when i got home, and i jammed it full of lucas oil trans fluid, so may try again today. The 4l60e i bought was used of course, so its questionable at best at the bands/sprag/pump condition.
Yea I had the radiator before with the 326 so I forgot to mention it, but its a Cold Case aluminum with their electric fan kit. Couple years ago Jeg's had this rock bottom price sale for them and I couldn't pass it up, kept my iron block/ iron head old engine from overheating on 99 degree Florida days, so far I've not seen temps above 190 (at the head) with the LS.
These posts always whittle down in the end to unfinished projects or people that forget, and to do this justice I had to come back and show some progress of being on the road. Short version of story, 4 out of 5 legs of Power Tour and 1100 miles driven, the car did great and we had a blast getting this swap on the road!
Since getting it running, and doing some runs around town, the 4l60e gave up on me. Part throttle around town wasn't a problem, but it had no line pressure to support more than half throttle pulls and would flash out of gear. Made a quick pivot decision based on a timely facebook marketplace search and ended up with an AR5 instead. It was straight forward, using stock 98-02 clutch, flywheel and slave, and a McLeod master/pedal kit for 64-67 A-bodies. Fabbot kit worked just like they said, made a 1.5" hole with a stepper bit in a 4l60e bellhousing and ran a remote bleeder up to master, now bolted to driver's fender well. Got the hurst stick upgrade from core shifters, and everything fits well with the bench. In fact fun note, the tail shaft is same length as 4l60, they use the same mount, the shifter location is almost identical to a Muncie, and it used my new built driveshaft I had made for the automatic as well!
And the only other major change I made under hood was getting an LS6 intake to fit my truck DBW TB and accessories. After figuring out my last throttle body was causing limp issues and bad signals, we replaced with a new OEM GM part number and its been solid for over 1500 miles.
Yea supposedly its a fair amount stronger than the rating suggested (seems GM just slapped the torque number for their I5 on it). Internals and spline suggest it can handle as much as its R154 2JZ cousin. Sloppy Mechanics had a video post where he has a turbo LS Colorado push 600+ ft lbs through it on a dyno. I figure with street tires I'll never hook it hard enough to find out if its an issue =D
I'm also using the stock Pontiac 10 bolt with 3.55 Yukon posi, but they were meant for 400 tri power goats, so its probably fine lol
