Default TCC wiring

Right now I have my converter lockup wired thru a relay powered by the brake circuit. When the brake is not on, power goes to the lockup. Press on the brake and power goes to the brake lights. Question is: The brake light circuit always has power to it so will this cause any problems with the car setting in the garage for a week? Seems to me that power goes to the trans and just sets there waiting for the lockup parameters to be met so not actually being used. Is that correct?

Is it "live" power or key-activated?

I believe you would want to power the TCC wire thru a a circuit that has 12 volts when the key is on only. The brake light wire is hot on one side of the switch all the time. If you step on the brake pedal even with the car off the brake lights should light up. You don't really need a relay for the TCC.

Here is how I wired the circuit: From the fuse panel to a relay terminal 30 with a jumper to terminal 86. Terminal 85 goes to terminal 1 of a pressure style brake light switch. Terminal 2 of that switch goes to ground. On the relay terminal 87 goes to the third brake light. Terminal 87a goes to the TCC. Normally the relay sets at terminals 30 and 87a connected. Activate the relay by pushing the brake and power flips from 87a to 87 which does two things, cuts power to the TCC and provides power to the brake lights.

I'm a total meat head when it's comes to electrical stuff. If your set up listed above doesn't cause a amp draw while in the garage with the key off you should be good to go.

I always wire mine through an ignition "hot" circuit. You could do the same by just swapping the constant power to an ignition power source. Your brake lights would only work when the key was on, but a lot of new cars are that way now, and you really don't need brake lights if the car isn't running.
