1965 Lemans Gets Booosted
Also, does the turbo have any extra support besides the up-pipe from the Holley manifold and the down-pipe?
Andrew
Yes there's a small bracket to help support the turbo, I'll see if I can get a decent picture of it today some time.
Motor was stripped down, cleaned and rebuilt. Different crank rods and pistons. New rings and bearings.
Based on the pistons that cracked, essentially everyone I spoke with guessed detonation but there's was no other signs of it anywhere. Injectors pulled flowed and retested, fuel filter pulled and clean.
My tuner / engine rebuilder took the car for its first drive and logged it on his laptop, everything checks out.
So we weren't able to find a true cause as to WHY it happened. Time will tell I guess
Even went to the drag strip with it haha. I knew it was a dog out of the hole but my goodness did I ever know it at the track. Only ran twice and thought I heard a charge pipe or something pop on the first run, but it was all good.
Trapped 117mph on my second and final run. If I'm going to race or drive the car that way, a converter upgrade is definitely needed haha.
I'm trying to build a garage this spring so money would be much better suited for that!
