what is the general consensus about stock location coil overs?

I have always used QA1 in the past with varying degrees of luck. No shade on them, I just suck at suspension set up.

Some people have mentioned the viking crusaders as the best bang for the buck.

A gent on my youtube said most folks find no benefit to coilovers in the stock location and I should move them inboard, But I dont want to lose the ability to run stock suspension classes.

A talk with Frank at Team Z has me pretty set on the Chris Alston Chassiworks kit. He really hyped them up.

Got the UCA relocation from baseline today. Bummer, the box was busted open and the IC adjuster plates were MIA. Oh well hopefully Kevin at baseline is a lot cooler about shipping issues than Joe at UPR (never again)

kind of excited to have this as a roller soon. once i finish the cage and paint the interior & engine bay. I can pull the malibu into the garage and start on some stuff it needs before race season.

I checked them out finally after seeing you went with them. They actually have real good prices. I wish they offered US Gears Stealth gear set like Johns does. One stop shop and all

This stang has a lot of cool work done to it. I can’t wait to see it finished

oh a whim i had a buddy call around the different fox suspension gurus today, with the pointed question is "whats gonna get the best performance for the money?"

UPR (due diligence) Team Z (love em) and Baseline (kevin is my hero)

all three said it's not worth putting coilovers in the stock location. One said even with a small tire move the shocks inboard. two of three say stock location DA shocks with small tire valving and stock location springs are the way to go. they have cars 60' in the 1.1x's and thats exactly what I want.

anybody wanna buy my lower control arms? lol

I should have just called viking to begin with. They are really straight to the point and knowledgable. Now I'm considering ditching the QA1's in my g body...sigh i'll never have a retirement fund

damn, it looks like some serious metal-smashing much occur to fit this 275 radial on a 10" wide rim in the stock tubs.

I'm actually kinda worried a 2.50 coil over will even fit in there without rubbing badly

I see you said you wouldn't throw shade on QA1, but I will. My S10 has been together 12 years. In those 12 years I went through 2 complete sets of QA1's that all together lasted right at 7 years of street/strip driving. Now, I will say, I can grade a gravel road with a box blade, better than the roads in St. Louis, but that aside, the QA1's didn't last. I was okay-ish with that because I "was under the impression" they could be rebuilt. Well the problem is, they don't have anyone who is a rebuilder now. Last time I bought Vikings.

They have been on my truck taking a beating for years, and so far still work great.

yeah naake was rebuilding them and selling parts but last time I called for parts they said they stopped due to quality issues. the ones on my malibu mist oil and it's kind of annoying. probably not as annoying as having to set their "drag shocks" at compression full tight because they only offer one valving.

but yeah, no shade from me lol

hopefully the vikings will be better. they are certainly more coherent on the phone about tech questions.

well for anybody else looking to put stock location coilovers and 275/60r15 radial pros on 10" wide rims with 6.5" BS

yeah dont do that.

maybe the early cars are different or something? not sure what my next step is. I need at least an inch on both sides.

I have not yet decided if I will make it fit by force or by grace.
