Default What is this hose for?

How’s it going guys, new member here. I just picked up a 64 Impala SS last week that has an LS swap. I was told its a 5.7 out of a 2002 Camaro SS.

I drove the car to work today to get to know her better, and realized I had some light smoke billowing in from the dash vents when stopped. Smelled like oil/fuel. Once I got home I popped the hood and saw there was smoke blowing out of this 3 inch-long open ended hose with the motor running.

If anyone could let me know what it is exactly and how I could remedy the issue I’d appreciate it! The motor runs perfectly, no rough idle or anything else besides the light smoke flowing out of the hose.

If it smokes lightly, it might be hooked up to the drivers valve over, PVC.

take the beauty cover off for a better look/pic

Looks like part of the original PCV hose from the donor.

Yeah that's for your PCV line off the valve cover. Pretty simple to connect that end to a hose and then to an inline PCV valve before entering the intake. I'd put a sealed catch can between the hose to limit the amount of oil that gets into the intake manifold. There could also be a PCV valve right there on the valve cover so I'd check that out.

Thanks. It appears to be just a 90 degree fitting connected to a short plastic tube. So I would put a pcv valve in place of that fitting (or inline pcv), and run a hose from there to this port on the front/drivers side intake? It was capped. Also it’s a stock motor with headers and occasional driver, would I still need to add a catch can or can I get by with a direct hose?

If it's just a stock engine then no real need for a catch can but certainly wouldn't hurt. I'd put that back onto the valve cover and run a hose off there towards the intake manifold with an in-line pcv valve just before the intake manifold. I've attached an image of what the 4th Gen Fbody lines look like. You'll notice the in-line pcv valve at the end of the line before going into the intake manifold.

Before you go and buy/build stuff to fix your issue, have you looked around the rear of the engine (including under) to see if there a hose/connector where that open ended hose might connect? Maybe the whole set-up is here and that hose just came loose, or broke off. If you are lucky, the hose for that 90° fittings is just hanging somewhere...
