Default 50 Olds 88 resto mod

This is going to be a slow long term build. I’ll try my best to stay with it and document and update as much as I can. But here’s the first step. Brought the car home from storage this weekend. A little background on me and the vehicle first. I grew up around NHRA stock and super stock racing. My father had raced since the late 60s and this was actually his first race car. Ran stock with the factory 303. It has been in our family for all but 4 years since 1966. I started racing super stock in 98 when I turned 16 also running an Olds G body. Had decent success won a national event had a couple divisional finals, held class records. Spent a little time running some local area small heads up races. First with an 88 Olds sbe 6.0 single turbo set up. Then moved to a fox body with the same drivetrain. Got it to run low 5.40s and had put together everything to build a good lsx 370 and was switching from the billet 80 to an 88 but realized my budget wasn’t going to allow me to be as competitive as I’d like. So sold it all and put my 6.0 into a 70 nova I’d had since I was 14. Been running that the last 3 seasons just as a bracket car. Pretty basic carb’d 6.0 running 10.50s.
That brings us to this. I wanted something that was more daily use friendly to take on some weekend trips and have some fun when I felt like it. After lots of internal arguments on how I wanted to do this. At the end of last summer we ordered a full Scott’s Hot Rods chassis. coil overs, 4 link rear with a 9” 3.50 rear gear 12” Wilwoods. It will be powered by a twin 66mm turbo’d 6.0 backed by a 4L80 using a Holley Terminator system equipped with a Vintage Air unit. Like I mentioned in the beginning this will be a long slow process but should be a fun build with lots of sentimental family meaning behind it.threw in a pic of the nova

Default New chassis complete

Got word yesterday and got pics this morning that our new Scott’s hot rods chassis is done. Excited for a big piece of the puzzle to be ready. Heading down to Knoxville in a couple weeks to pick it up.

Also getting started on doing some rust repair along the way.

Picked the chassis up in Knoxville yesterday and just about back home with it. It exceeds my expectations and the guys at Scott’s are awesome. It’s truly a first class facility. Excited to start to get things mocked up

Finally got to spend a little time in the garage this weekend for the first time since i got the chassis home. Didn’t get a whole lot accomplished but got the radiator support blasted so it can get powder coated. Progress is slow but it’s still progress

Had access to my friends shop and 2 post for a day this weekend. Didn’t get quite as far as I’d hoped. Lost some time do to the switch failing on the hoist when the body was halfway off and took a couple hours to get it all back together and working. Then ran into some issues with the body fitting. Had to cut off the front cowl mounts and will have to build our own to make them work. the front four link mount is also hitting the floor so need to modify the floor a bit to get it where it’s supposed to be. But it’s sort of on the chassis now enough know where everything needs to be trimmed out. Will definitely need the ride height adjusted a bunch in order to drive it on my local roads but i like the look so far.

Been pretty slow going. Haven’t had much time. Have a 13 year old that is involved in summer travel baseball and basketball along with running some junior Olympic track. So progress has been minimal. Been chipping away a little bit trying to get the body closer to sitting where it’s supposed to sit. His sports slow down here in the next couple weeks so hopefully I can start to make some headway.
