I have an LS1 with a 6 speed from out of a 1998 Trans am swapped into a 1968 ElCamino. I used the donor ECM, fuel injection and harness. Everything operates well. I am recently disabled enough where the 6 speed is a challege for me to operate. I want to take out the 6-speed and install an automatic. (6 Speed is already spoken for)
What automatic transmission could I convert this to with the least amount of effort? I want to be sure the automatic will function normally with passing gear etc. I am not concerned about the pedal swap or the driveshaft difference.
I would prefer NOT to have to have the ECM re-progamed if possible. What transmission would be the easiest? TH400? 4L60? 4L60E? etc? Thank you

 

4L60E would be the easiest if you still want an OD trans. You will need to mod the 6 speed harness to add the wires/connector for the 4L60E . You will have to mod the ECM to go from the 6 speed to an auto.

 

What are your thoughts on a 700R?

They make a kit to use PG's, TH350's and TH400's so the 700R4 is definetly doable and the TH400 or 700R4 would be my choices for a transmission suitable for the streets.
