Default Does this crank require a spacer?

I have asked a few pages on FB and it seems everyone claims to be a pro and know for sure BUT the answers are usually split. Half the people say I have to use a spacer and half said no.

2012 Gen 4 engine (5.3L) and using a 2004 model 4L80E transmission. I have a flat GM flexplate that I ordered (No it did not come with the spacer as pictured)

Thats a short crank. you can either run a dished/4l60 flex plate or a flate with a spacer depending on your converter. If using a stock 80e converter just run the spacer and flat flex plate.

If it sticks out about 1/2" from the seal. That's a long crankshaft. 0.13" from the seal is a standard length.

That's sticking out much farther than the Gen III stuff does.. odd.

Only some 6.0L truck engines from (IIRC) 2000-2001 have the long crank. Every other LS-style engine is short crank and you need a spacer to connect to a 4L80E.

It's actually 1999-2000 4.8l and 6.0l Engines that had the long Crank Flange. I've seen both in person, looks like this:





Very distinguishable with the short one almost flush with the cover. That above pic with it sticking out that much has me curious, the seal mark in my pic is from the inner seal on that Rear Main seal riding on the flange, the outer lip is just a dust seal.

I believe the longer crank hubs were for the HD 4 spd option.

Longer Cranks were in the early 6.0l trucks of those years with 4L80E beind it.

The 4.8l was in the 3/4 ton Vans that had a 4L80E behind it. Severly underpowered setup IMO.
