Default Line Lock question

I bought a foxbody already setup for drag racing that's been to a track a fair number of times. Of course, I have been scouring you tube watching other foxbody's racing at the track. At least until it warms up until I can go to a test and tune and get some practice runs in. I've noticed that most of the videos that I watch, they have a line lock on the front brakes in the burnout box. I inquired from the seller if there is a line lock on the car and he said no, you don't really need one with a car like that. What are your thoughts on that? 6.0 LS, 88 mm turbo, power glide. It does have a tranny brake on it. My previous car at the track was a manual 6 speed, so with it, I'd just dump the clutch in 2nd and get some wheel spin going. I never touched the brake until I rolled out of it.

Thanks in advance.

The trans brake takes the line lock's place and function.

Thank you. Trans brake at staging. How about the burnout box before staging?

However you used a line lock, you now use a transbrake...

You can't use a transbrake for a burnout, and you don't use a line lock for staging. They are two different tools for two different purposes.

Right. It's been a minute since I read a lot on either and had combined them in my head. My bad...

Without a line lock you need to use the brakes to hold the car still. Rough on rear brakes but since front brakes are bigger and stronger, this works. No brakes will NOT hold the car still. Most likely, this will not heat rear tires enough at the dragstrip.

Having line lock is easier on the car and it enables you to do a longer burnout while being easier on the car.

I’ll try the burnout box without a line lock first and just use the brakes to get the tires spinning. I had a manual at the track before. All I’d do there was a 2nd gear dump and get the tires warm spinning. No line lock and I did okay. The seller had told me that you don’t really need it with this car. We shall see. Tranny brake and 2 step button on one side of the steering wheel and the bump bottom on the other side for staging. Thanks for the input.

What type of tire are you running? Regular street tires can harden the rubber with large heat cycles.
