Haven't updated much mostly because I've been waiting on parts (going on almost 6 weeks now for my 4L80 stuff) .
I really didn't want to put the longtubes back on the car, I never liked them (they were the old BRP hotrods ones that were 3 pieces) so i got some better ones...

also this came last week

hoping to stick some tubes together after I get some more practice with the tig. Plan is to run the full exhaust as all my builds have tailpipes. Hoping it's a lot quieter than the NA setup (it sounded way rowdier than it was)

these are the BRP mounts. Engine is an inch off the firewall on the passengers side. I had to notch the drivers side of the frame a bit to clear the manifolds (which are the summit brand cast iron - but are definitely the same as the holley ones that are double the price)

Was able to get a little further on brainstorming and mocking up last night. Borrowed a friend's little turbo stand. I want to try and keep as much of the inner fender as possible (I'll definitely have to trim it for the cold side pipe) but this is probably where it's gonna live

as far as the hotside goes i need to keep the tubes above the idler and pitman arm. Also the radiator that was in the car i didnt think was going to work so i picked up a 28inch wide dual pass unit from speedway.

First probelm is its actually 27.75 wide so my current fans dont fit in the core (I'd have to notch the plastic near the lower outlet, and even then the plastic shroud will sit on the tanks)
I need to pick out an intercooler and order some wastewater, intercooler will help determine if I keep the radiator I guess.

Looking good! I highly recommend using modern brushless fans. The Chevy Volt fans will fit that radiator core perfectly. They can be found at a junkyard for less than $150.

I was considering the popular Silverado brushless fan setup from burndown garage, its hot here in NC and i hope to cram AC in here eventually so i definitely need something robust. I gotta say these spal fans have been on this car for 10 years and were on my mustang before that and they worked great on the few other cars I had with them. I'm also trying to figure out an intercooler setup. A lot of this would be so much easier with a tube radiator support but the ones I've looked at all say "not for use with the stock steel hood" and I don't want to change that or put hood pins on it.

Once you have the variable speed brushless fans, you'll never use anything else. They are that good.

They also eliminate the inrush current draw, which is a lot easier on the alternator. There is a reason that many OEMs use them. You also don't need a relay to run them

Progress has been slow going, but I've been picking up a few parts. Also sold the aluminum ls1 I originally built for the car 12 years ago which helped.
clean ls1 out, dirty (for now) LQ4 in:

i was also agonizing over a mount for the turbo, ended up ordering a parker speed oil drain mount. I don't have a tubing bender so I sent some measurements to a buddy and he's making a tube up for me to weld to the frame. Should be here this week

Also mocked up a few pipes, waiting to get the mount made to start tacking them together

Probably won't make much more progress for a few weeks, in the process of selling our house, buying a new house and moving. New garage is insulated and I can finally have some ac (though I'll still be laying on my back using jack stands). With the new property I'll have more space and I hope to build a shop in the somewhat near future.

I always search for 2015. I'm not exactly sure when the model years started and ended.

Looking good. Love the backstory

I'm doing a G-body right now too. If you need any help modifying that holley harness, hit me up. I'm just a little north of you in Lexington NC

in hindsight i should have just bought one of devin's engine harnesses and made it myself. the quality is definitely not the same as it was 10 years ago when i did my dominator in the mustang.

slow progress, been way too hot to work on the car in my garage the past few weeks. i did get the piece of tubing i needed from my buddy jason (i dont have a tubing bender and buying one seemed not worth it at this point) so i was able to kinda mock it up. i may tack it up and make a gusset but after that im probably done till we move in a few weeks.

We finally closed and moved last weekend, was able to drag the car over to the new house this week. The garage is a bit smaller and attached to the house but ive done more with less lol. Im planning to build a shed to keep all the lawn equipment, bikes, kids stuff and for parts storage in the next few weeks (i eventually plan to build a detached garage) but fir now heres some pics of the new digs...

I had an electrician buddy out here today to help me figure out where to put a few outlets, most importantly a 220v outlet for the tig welder. Once i get that all done i can get back to work!

not much of an update as far as the car goes, but i did finally get the electrical done in the garage a few weeks ago. one of my customers came and helped me out on a saturday to get it knocked out. looking forward to using my primeweld to its full potential now lol

also been trying to find someone to build me a shed, i must have called 10 people. ive been debating just doing it myself but im really lacking in free time to work on the car let alone build a 10x12 shed.
i did score some parts from a (somewhat) famous dragweek friend

my goal is to have this thing running by fall of 2026 (which seems like a long time from now lol) but i figured id just put that out there to help keep myself motivated.
