Help with flywheel and starter issue
Originally I got the flat ac delco flexplate. Didn’t fit right. I ordered atp-z270 that has the spacer built in and it’s all good from the flexplate standpoint.
Now the issue is the starter doesn’t sit right with the flexplate. The starter needs about a 3/8” spacer. Summit advised on the flexplate and starter. The starter is a power master 9109.
what am I missing here?

It is fact that I needed a spacer or the flywheel I bought with the spacer installed. The starter just needs spaced 3/8” to fit.
unfortunately no pics of the crank. I only have front side pictures. I’m handling this remote from Seattle while a friend in Kansas does the swap.
My initial thought is you got a 153 tooth starter, but the stock starter would indicate a ring gear diameter issue (unless it was boxed wrong). LS engines only came with 142 (LS4) and 168 (all others) tooth ring gears.
Most LS engines have a standard-length crankshaft flange. These engines use a dished flexplate with an adapter to connect with older-style transmissions (non-LS). For modern LS-style transmissions, a flat flexplate is used, with no spacer needed. The longer crank flange is found only on 1999–2000 6.0L LS engines. It is approximately 0.400–0.550 inches longer than the standard flange and when mating a long-crank 6.0L to an older (non-LS) transmission, you use a flat flexplate with no spacer. Using a standard (dished) flexplate on this engine will result in the starter not engaging properly, or other fitment issues.
Notice the difference in crank flange thickness.

A powermaster 9509 fixed my issue but that may not be your problem.
